Brake Dust

2020 2SS with 4 piston Brembo's. The brake dust is terrible. Is this common with this set-up? I only have 395 miles on the car and am still easy on the brakes.

Ceramic coat the wheels, much easier to keep the wheels clean that way.

As the pads wear in it gets better.

Find some of the threads about changing to PowerStop or some of the other brands of pads.

My 2020 made a mess of the wheels within 200 miles. i will eventually do something to make them easier to clean. Still waiting for mine to come back from the dealer though. Hopefully its an isolated incident, but keep an eye on your calipers. My left rear Brembo caliper was leaking fluid. That wheel will need a lot of attention once the car comes home.

My 2017 Fiesta ST had a horrible problem with brake dust. It supposedly had very high performance brake pads- some type of graphite. The black dust was so bad it caked on the wheels in globs and caked all over the calipers too. Just normal driving, no track use. After 3K miles the wheels were getting destroyed trying to removed the gobules of dust- and I cleaned the wheels every 2 days. I tried every wax and other coatings on the wheels to no avail. Finally ended up switching out the brake pads to a ceramic pad. When I removed the calipers there was so much grime I had to clean, flush and brush it off. The ceramic pads I changed to were great- hardly any dust at all and I noticed no difference in stopping at all. Granted I did not track the car so in track conditions the stock brakes could be better but I did not notice it in daily driving. The ceramic seemed to be perhaps even a little better if anything. Wheels stayed much cleaner though, sure glad I changed the pads out, well worth it. It just about eliminated the dust.

I had the wheels ceramic coated and cleaning them is much easier now, ceramic coupled with a wheel woolie and a brush for cleaning makes a quick and easy job of wheel maintenance.

Yes, these pads do dust, but I love the stopping power and wheel cleaning is somewhat therapeutic, so I don't mind the dust at all. Lots of discussions on Powerstop vs the stock Ferodo pads in the forums.

Wow, thanks folks - glad I am not alone with this. I have been cleaning the wheels after every drive with Griot's Speed Shine just to stay on top of the dust issue. Seems like the Powerstop Ceramic's are the way to go!

I'll echo this recommendation. I only did the fronts and it made a huge, immediately noticeable difference in dust.
This car comes stock with semi-metallic pads so they can market it as "track ready." These are very hard on rotors compared to ceramics. I went through two sets of rotors as they developed disc thickness variation. Much happier with the ceramics up front. Amazon had the best price when I got mine.

I installed the Powerstop pads at 280 I was also cleaning after every drive. Now 630 miles on my 2019 SS haven’t had to clean since 280 miles. It was so bad I didn’t want to drive it.
