Thoughts/experience with Goodyear F1 SC 3R tires.

Hey all, long time lurker. I’ve seen lots of posts on people switching to less track oriented rubber, but I was wondering about the Goodyear F1 Supercar 3R’s that come on the ZL1 1LE.

https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...8&autoModClar=

They’re still streetable competition tires, a lot cheaper than the Trofeo’s, slightly better wear rating (though not directly comparable from one manufacturer to another), has anyone tried a set?

Thanks for any and all info..

I’ve written a track and road review if search for my posts. Short summary: mega fast: 1.5 second a lap faster at Dominion then my trofeos (unfortunately conditions were different but the trofeos doesn’t tolerate early throttle like the 3r). 305 appear to be wider then 305 trofeos. Handle early throttle on track better then trofeos. Worse cold grip. Tram less then the trofeos. Street noise is about the same. I ran a 2:04.4 with them at vir. I see no reason to buy trofeos with these available.

Ah yes must have missed that in the search. Very promising!

I also have them and for the money much better value than Trofeo's - they do everything well, but wet - since you are in S. Cal like me - I think this is your best overall option for the money.

The fact that we’ve had maybe two days in the last month where I could drive the Z had me thinking about the Michelin PS4S... but the Supercups seem like the best option, even without the $600 saved over Trofeos.

I’ll just have to wait out the wet weather, and all the fun roads being strewn with mud and rocks

PS4S transform the car on the road. Really enjoyable ride/noise/manners. As well as cold/wet weather confidence

Agree - just to be clear - unless its 70 degrees or warmer you can VERY easily crash the car on cold tires with all the systems on. It's an amazing streetable track tire and I've driven on it in temps from 22 - 90+ degrees and tracked it in temps 33 - 85 degrees; and even in wet track at 33 degrees so it's dooable but you can't be silly with the throttle. In sub 55 - 60 degrees the tire will never really never warm up enough on the street to hook; even at 55 - 60 degrees I can't get enough tire temp in auto x / circuit cross to make them anywhere near competitive.

A PS4S, R888R, RE71R, RE11 (or whatever the replacement is now) will be a much better "cold" street tire.

With all that said, it behaves on the street just like a trofeo. So if you know what you're getting into with Trofeos (and why) then this is a great choice. For circuit cross I'm considering a 325 R888R.

Even the PS4S guidelines says it's not meant for cold weather...

"The Pilot Sport 4S excels in warm dry and wet conditions, so like all Max Performance Summer tires, is not intended to be serviced, stored nor driven in near- and below-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice."

"Tires exposed to temperatures of 20 degrees F (-7 degrees C) or lower must be permitted to gradually return to temperatures of at least 40 degrees F (5 degrees C) for at least 24 hours before they are flexed in any manner, such as by adjusting inflation pressures, mounting them on wheels or using them to support, roll or drive a vehicle."

Not heard much comment on Michelin Pilot Sport Cup, Cup+ or Cup2 on this forum.

I'm running the older Cup+ in Porsche 'N' specs at the moment. They're:
- better than the Trofeo's on the road (less stiff, less tramlining)
- not quite as fast on track, but wear less
- better in the wet than Trofeos
- better in cold temps than the Trofeos (I got caught in snow and survived!)

Unfortunately I'm not sure the Goodyear F1 Supercar 3R is going to make it to Europe for me to be able to do a comparison with that tyre.

I'm probably going to try to latest Michelin PS Cup2's in 'N' spec next...

I run Michelin cup 2's on my 09 Z06; and I was putting them on my Z/28 in thes spring, as the stock Trofeo R's are at 3mm; hey once they are warm..they stick like crazy, otherwise make sure its 60F..as too much power and they chatter as you slide. Five miles at highway speed and they warm up.
However I was considering staying with the Michelin cup 2's for these reasons:

1.they only weigh 1 more lb per wheel than the trofeo r's
2.they come in 315 width, which will fit both ends of the car in an unstaggered fitment
3.They wear well, my Z06 shows only slight wear after 3000 miles, I'm expecting 12500 to 15000 miles??

I have 3Rs. Better than the Trofeo in almost every respect.
Quieter
Cheaper
Wider
Wear (TBD) but good so far
The only thing they may not be as good as the Trofeos is wet traction. Not that I've gotten squirrelly with the 3Rs, the Trofeos just seem to stick better in the wet.

that’s right. Below 40 degrees it’s a crab shoot how things will work. R888R has the best cold performance in my experience. They’re on my daily focus that has seen 7 degrees and not cracked. Z/28 stays in the garage... I had trofeos unmounted in 30 degrees and they were cracked beyond use.

I’m out winter league r888r, re71r and the contis seem to do the best between 15 - 40 degrees. I haven’t seen a damaged tire from the aforementioned mentioned group in 3 years. My supercars saw a few miles of snow before setting a 2:04.4 the next day at vir, again, no damage. However, I drove a buddy’s focus st with RS-3s to show him the line at Shenandoah and they were literally hockey pucks. It’s fair to say, 500hp and sub 40 degrees don’t mix

They're great tires and as mentioned they are better than the Trofeo's. Less warm up time on the track too. I highly recommend them
