Stock SS Driveshaft

Hey guys, just want some input from people running drag radials in an auto with stock driveshaft. I saw one thread where a guy had a problem but have not found much other info. I do plan to put a loop on it just in case. My car is fbo, h/c, e85. I have a 150 shot if I am feeling confident about it but wouldn't spray it until 2nd gear. Just looking for some feedback from anyone still using a stock shaft at the 540whp+ NA level.

Destroyed my SS driveshaft back a couple of years ago when I was probably in the 630-650 WHP range. Definitely get yourself the safety loop no matter what! I went with the GForce 3.5” aluminum shaft but the DSS and QA1 shafts are great also.

Got my ZL1 M6 driveshaft (don't know if the auto fits too??) and it was a direct bolt on to my SS M6. Posted pictures a while back. Cost was like $125 including shipping. Pretty sure 1 side if not both sides of the Zl1 halfshafts work too.

My 90k H/C/I SS has been going fine on the stock driveshaft. With the way people talk about it and the stories you would think they would blow up immediately.

Although it does make the car sound and feel like a POS especially with the carrier/center support slop and noise when shifting from drive to reverse. The thing is I think all of the differential and drive shaft is made by GKN which makes German cars and BMWs stuff I think, which are supposedly more refined and luxurious with no NVH problems but I know our driveshaft definitely has NVH problems.

They may have been trying to dampen and reduce vibrations in the driveshaft and that's why its so sloppy in the center support is my guess. This is the same reason that makes it supposedly weak too would be my guess as well. I wonder how the NVH and noise on the ZL1 is?

I'm at 600+ for almost 3 years. No issues. I did install the safety loop during my last upgrade.

It seems like PD blower + sticky tires seems to be the clear cut recipe for stock SS DS death. Everyone else is luck of the draw. That center section is *really* small...
