You’re welcome....install was plug and play. The unit uses the same connections you used on your factory hu. In total if my memory serves me correctly I hooked up maybe 5 lines behind and I was done. As well all these units are the same only difference is the backup camera clip that’s it. You have 10-13 or 14/15 and that’s strictly to receive the proper clip for rear mount camera for the 2 different style bumpers.

Is this unit compatible with HUD? I have read reviews on similar products that were not.

I don’t know about all these off brand radios. My saying is “ buy cheap, buy twice.”

I remember when I was younger and money was a little tight I’d buy Dual radios from places like Walmart cuz they’d always be in the clearance section. After about the third one went bad within a year I realized I could have bought a better brand and saved money. Since then I’ve stuck with JVC, Kenwood and Pioneer and none have gone bad, plus they’re easier to swap out and resell when I want to upgrade.

They are Chinese Android head units.

I have been running an 8 core @ 1.3 GHz, 2GM RAM, 32 GB Chinese Android head unit for about 2 years now. 2 128GB MicroSD slots, 2 RCA camera jacks (can run USB camera as well), 2 USB ports, GPS antenna, external and internal mic for phone and assistant features, Bluetooth, wifi... all the usual tablet stuff. It is great since you can run pretty much any Android app possible. I use mine for running all my gauges via the Torque app over Bluetooth ELM27 OBD adapter. I love being able to see my fuel trims, oil pressure and temps, coolant temps, timing advance, knock retard, etc. on my head unit while the stereo or Spotify is on in the background.

Audio quality is good, has GPS allowing me to use whatever Map app I wish, YouTube, media player (I have over 100GB of movies on a microSD card), audiobooks, screen mirroring, etc. It's pretty cool. Think of it as having an Android tablet in your dash that also has an AM/FM tuner, front/rear camera capabilities, DVR for those cameras, and a ton of other features. Mine doesn't control any of the CanBus stuff like Mr2Hard2See's does. His is a newer style that also includes the CanBus decoder and bezel kit all in one, and it looks really good since the head unit and bezel were designed together. They are cool devices, but I don't think are are the end-all-be-all.

The main complaint I have with my Android head unit is that it is just so underpowered. It feels fine at first, but it really gets sluggish as the specs are just so inferior to what is available these days. It's not like they are running the latest Samsung Exynos, Snapdragon, or Apple chipset. Also, the screen resolutions are pretty low. Mine is 1024x600, capacitive. They really need to start making some high end versions of these with modern hardware. I wish they could do OLED, but that won't work in a car due to their inherent screen burning issues. I had to flash an aftermarket ROM to mine to bring it from Android 6>8, and it still feels slow, but it helped and unlocked some other nice stuff since it's rooted now.

I plan to upgrade to an iDatalink head unit soon along with the Maestro dash kit. The features on those are insane and exactly what I want. They are also better suited to audiophiles.

^^^I was going to suggest the Maestro with iDatalink but you were ahead of me. I like the iDatalink in my other vehicle but I just can’t get with how the Maestro looks. I never considered myself an audiophile but I really like how the newer head units sound and the features over what was available ten years ago.

I’m not that technical , but I like good sound. How do you like the performance of this unit? Anything new that you have discovered about it now that you have had it for a while? Thanks.

I the video it shows it doing automatic climate control. Would this be a thing on my 2010 that currently is manual climate control?

At 6:37 is when I do the climate control features. Rankss my car is a 2011 and you can have it on or off. If you leave it on then it stays on. When your turn it off it’s off. In California my location it doesn’t matter much but you eastern/northern guys I would imagine you want to have it on to defrost the windshield in the winter months.

1 thing I noticed is locking the car I have a shorter range now but it could also be my key fob battery draining out. I’ll get a new battery and come back with results

Does anyone know if this radio allows the use of the factory camera for a 2013 convertible? My backup cam is displayed in the MyLink touchscreen, not the rear view mirror.

Also, convertibles have the sub integrated in the back seat. Any inputs for that on this Octopus model?
