I've always used Mobil 1 in all my cars, but this is half the price of the new Mobil 1 oil....

Decisions, decisions.

edit: I don't want to derail but my '19 manual makes no mention of 5w-40:

"The engine is factory filled with
0W-40 dexos2 oil. 0W-40 dexos2
engine oil is approved for both track
and street use. 15W-50 full
synthetic engine oil may also be
used for track use, but after track
use must be changed back to
0W-40 dexos2 for street use."

But the track guide mentions it specifically. Did something change for the '19 spec because of the new M1?

For 2019 GM switched to the new Mobil 1 dexos 2 0W-40 for factory fill. Prior years could use 5W-40 for track use. I haven't seen the 2019 track guide so will take your word.

When NAPA doesn't have the Valvoline on sale, my local Wal-Mart stocks it at close to the NAPA price. I've been using the Valvoline 5W-40 for street and a lot of track, the Blackstone reports have been very good.

Some oil experts on this forum mentioned that the new Mobil 1 may clean deposits better or something like that.

===============================
This is attributed to all engine oils that are spec.ed / certified "Dexos2"(similar I.E. to the VW Spec. 505.01 or BMW LL-04). It is a Mid-SAPS formula which has detergents especially efficient in getting rid of deposits. Originally formulated for Diesel engines and mechanical injection systems "PD = Pumpe Duese", where extreme heat build-up near the injectors, causes higher deposits and coking. Since today's DI (Direct Injection) engines like our LT1s, also exhibit a high level of deposits - in the same areas as the PD/Diesels, this oil has become the recent recommendation of OEs in GDI Petrol engines as well (not Diesels in particular)

While GM indeed uses Mobil1 Dexos2 0w40 for factory fill and has a deal for Mobil to supply its dealers, the car's 2019 manual specifies only 0w40 Dexos2 in a generic fashion, without mentioning Mobil1.
I suspect 5w40 Dexos2 was omitted from the 2019 manual as part of the deal with Mobil as they dont make such specs (as far as i know). Prior year manuals mentions EITHER 5w40 Dexos2 or 0w40 Dexos2 as standards for oil which can be used for both dd and track. Until and unless GM sends me an official notification to the contrary, i will continue to use what is formally stated in my official car's manual

I think that the lowest it's been. It's usually 6/qt.

Thanks for the heads-up!

Thanks for the heads up! I've been tossing around the idea of switching to Mobil 1 but my Blackstone reports are coming back perfect after 40,000 miles of street/track use. Thinking I'll stick to the saying "If it ain't broke don't fix it"
