So a 4C is different not just because of weight. It's a mid-engine car with typically helps a lot. So it is 36% lighter than the Camaro, but it probably has 45-48% less weight on the front tires. It also has a much lower polar moment of inertia and a much shorter wheelbase. All these things make it change direction better than the Camaro.

I know exactly what the op is saying/feeling. Everything I get in certain vehicles I recognize the shortcomings. When I get into the WRX or the FIT I feel like I am in a fishbowl versus the Camaro interior. I haven't driven a 4C but I expect it to be a better dance partner. I feel like I have to muscle the Camaro around the track versus say a Cayman that just dances. That dance cost 2-3x as much...

However despite the shortcomings there is no better track day special for the price and until one comes around, I'll be driving the 1LE. I suppose if money were less of an object I would be driving a new Porsche Cayman GT4. Each car has its own character. I def miss a lighter weight car but just cant pass up the pace and value of the 1LE.

That was a good way to describe it @weemus. I haven't written off the 1LE yet...all first world problems

So I made sure to test the heaviest version, the V8 1LE with the automatic transmission...

Nothing lightens up a car better than blowing by the lightweight Alphas, like they're parked, while tracking an SS 1LE.

To some extent you can also add power to offset the weight

Yes I agree. But I have never driven a 4C. But I could compare the lightness and driving experience with my 1st Gen NSX? This is truly a "love at first drive" kind of car. I have driven both the NSX and Camaro at several tracks and that is where the Camaro really shines. The more you drive the Camaro the more it becomes part of you. It is immediately extremely responsive, flat in the corners, sticks beyond what you expect and can maneuver stably out of 10/10's driving situations.

However, the NSX immediately elicits the confidence and finesse from a driver with its cab-forward seating and view of the road along with the smooth and precise handling. If that compares to the 4C then I understand the dilemma to choose between it and the Camaro. Remember it takes a little more time to truly feel that trust when first taking the wheel of the Camaro.

I would think making the choice between the 2 cars will need more seat time! And lots of other factors to consider besides the cars abilities at the track......

1LE Cadillac supple in track mode? Do you daily drive a horse and frontier wagon or something? Seriously never had anyone describe one like that before.

Exactly.

Camaro is a large sports coupe that can be used for many things, 4C is far more specialized. I wouldn't mind having both!

Yes, the 4C is absolutely a single purpose car, that's why I bought it. It's very very immediate in all inputs, great brakes, visceral 1.75l engine that sounds fantastic through the Ti Akrapovic center exhaust, and extremely stiff chassis and suspension (mine has the factory track suspension too). What it doesn't have is front end stability and grip at 9-10/10s. Thats my biggest disappointment with the car.
After spending 3 years with the 1LE, front end grip is what I remember being continuously impressed with.
I guess I will I just need to have both once the crazy used Camaro prices subside!

I rode in a 4C as part of the HPDE at the local track. Pretty freakin' unbelievable ride, and being driven by a track instructor really helped as well.

But yeah, it's apples to oranges to an SS 1LE. 4C competes with the likes of Elise S, while SS 1LE more competes with Mustang GT PP2/Mach 1/GT350 and M4.

I've always been surprised that the 4C didn't catch on with the autocross crowd. I've literally never seen one at any event, anywhere. You'd think it would be amazeballs for that. And the Street (nee Stock) rules allow a swap of one swaybar, so you could install a bigger rear bar to improve front grip.
