Its an RPO (Regular Production Order) code to upgrade the suspension and handling that started in the late 80's. Not like a model you gave like the GTO - Gran Turismo Omologato

As Bad@ssCamaro said it's just an RPO code and has no meaning of its own. They are sequential so this is just the next one on the list when they first created the 1LE package on the 3rd gens. Its the same as the Z/28 it was the next RPO code on the list when they came up with the package in 1967, it was after Z27 which is the RPO designation for the SS package on the first gen.

If I remember correctly the 1LE had a "Law Enforcement" connotation from the later 3rd gens or was that the B4C RPO number.

B4C, Although it did share a few components the 1LE had far more track oriented pieces like baffled tank, PBR calipers, alum driveshaft..

I heard it means 1 Less Equipment. I came across this online...
"Given the 3rd and 4th generation production levels of 80-99 cars/year, it is not relevant financially. I suppose I have owned as many or more 1LEs as anyone in the country. Remember, 1LE means 1 Less Equipment. Yep, roll up windows, pre 98, no AC, no other options just suspension upgrades and a lot less weight. Less weight became impossible with the 5th generation being the size of 3 elephants, so literally a light weight model simply doesn't exist anymore. Even the new Z28 is 600 lbs to heavy. My 93, my 94 and my 98 all had shipping weights at or below 3250 lbs. That was within 50 lbs of the Corvette's weight with the same motor for the equivalent year. It was a wonderful value. No more. They will do a "Performance Model" but it will need 600 hp to carry its own weight around."

I agree but it carries it's weight pretty good for her size. I suppose one could strip down their 1le and make it faster or more nimble in the curves.

But it already is highly competetive.
