I am very comfortable with setting the cruise at 79 in a 70 in our area (southeast). I am not that aggressive in lower speed zones.

I was popped for 82 in a 75 here (2 points, and non moving violation just paying... tells you what they really want )... I've never had a problem w/ 80 in a 75, or 5 over... even passing CO troopers.

Seems they hold it a bit tighter over there than they do around here. Good to know. Thanks!

Here you just get a lawyer and have it reduced. By the time you pay for a defensive driver class, fine & court fees the lawyer is a better option. It's a racket anyway.

I always get pissed whenever I get a speeding ticket in anything else besides my Camaro...I mean if I'm going to take the hit, it better be in my fun car!

He doesn't need a lawyer for an 8 over with nothing else on his license.

Sorry, enlighten me? (was I supposed to say DA? they're 'the court', especially since the OP rarely needs to go to court what difference does it make to them?) It's a money making factory, call it what you want.

Sadly I have a lot of experience with tickets in my prior life. Been enjoying a clean license for quite a while now.

Regarding acceptable speeds, here in upstate NY you can get away with 13MPH over the limit. Been setting my cruise at 78 in a 65, 68 in a 55 for a decade+ now. I don't even slow down for speed traps (but often someone else will panic and slow to 54MPH in front of me ). My only tickets in that time was for moments I wasn't on cruise.

I'm sure Ohio needs the money.
So true in CT, keep it less than 10 over and you are good.
I prefer to just cruise around the speed limit as I am always paced by cops while traveling to the Beach.

If it was like mine, it was a point reduction from 4 to 2, and a non-moving violation (Defective Equipment vs speeding).

Dumb, I think not!

How would you like to be THIS guy? .8 mpg over.. Thats right ((point)) 8 over... I think they really wanted the drug charge to stick. I was once told that there is a 4 mpg variance between all makes of vehicles and the radar guns the law uses....

My ticket was 53 in a 35 about 2 or 3 years ago. I was back in Ohio visiting family. I didn't realize that the speed limit had been dropped in the area I was driving. Before I moved it was 45 I thought I was going 50 just cruising along not really paying attention.

While I was in town I went to go pay the fine and ask if there was someone (prosecutor or judge) I could talk to about just paying the fine and not getting points on my license. I explained to the girl at the desk I now live out of state and would not be able to make the court date. She told me about being able to do the driving school. I'm pretty sure that I didn't have to pay the fine but can't remember for sure. Im pretty sure the cost of the class was a little less than the fine also. So it was a double win for me, less out of pocket cost and no points to affect my insurance. I did it without the cost of a lawyer also.

The way the girl working at the court explained it to me was the only way my insurance would be able to find out is if the insurance company looked through the court records and saw that I was ticketed. But the court does not contact the bmv so it doesn't even go on your driving record so the chances of your insurance finding out or going up if they do find out is slim to none.
