Apex Flow Formed and Square Setup Reliability

Any of you folks using Apex flow formed wheels at the track? Had any issues with bending/cracking/etc?

Ditto for their square ET35 setup? A little wary of running that aggressive spacer and extended studs. Considering just running ZLE sizes to avoid that. I'd love to hear opinions either way.

I’ve run Apex flow forged wheels at VIR for 10+ years. I’ve jumped curbs in very heavy cars and never bent a wheel.

I have 2 sets and zero issues with over a year of hard track driving. I also run the ET35 squared with the spacers and I love being able to rotate F/R.

I just bought some square 18's (18X11" ET35 APEX VS-5RS FORGED), will be running spacers up front as well. Nothing to add besides I went with that option. Looking forward to see what the time difference will be on scrubs vs SC3 tires.

I'm running apex sm-10 wheels, 18 inch square with the big spacer and extended lugs. Over a year of track duty and no issues.

I've gotten them slightly out of round and replaced by their track warranty replacement 50% off.

Thanks for the replies, folks.

@Badmojo, can you elaborate about how long you had them and if the damage was gradual or all at once?

It was gradual over 20ish track days. I hit the curbing pretty hard. They were still usable, but you could see some out of round when they were on the balancing machine. I ended up damaging a wheel and cracking a lip (my fault). I got a set of four replacements under their track warranty and it was an easy process.

Another data point, the second set of wheels probably have 20+ track days and they were fine the last time I had tires mounted. My tire guy puts just the wheel on the balance machine to check them each time.

Thanks for the feedback. I actually hadn't considered their warranty program. Glad to hear they gave you such good customer service.

Extended studs and plain spacers present no reliability issues whatsoever. As long as you continue to torque them properly, they can't fail any more readily than the stock setup.

The difficulty with running the spacers Apex sells has been the shortage of ARP extended studs. I ordered mine in April, just received them today. I had been using another brand, they held up fine.

I run them on my Z. They are amazing. The best balanced wheel that I've had on my balancer as well, considering the size, 315/30/18, and the worst wheel took .50 oz.

I too am running the Aprex wheels +35 with spacer and extended studs. I've had them for 3 years and I bought them from another track rat. so who knows how many curbs these wheels have been on. 10/10 would recommend

Well I run these all the time. I have a set of SM-10's for street and EC7's for track. Over the course of 3 years I have bent 3 EC7 wheels and 1 SM-10 wheel.

Based though on the fact though that I am a VERY AGGREESIVE driver with several off track excursions at 100+ MPH, I feel this is acceptable as but all of ONE of the wheels was repairable. The SM-10 wheels are a little stronger than the EC7's. The wheels typically bend on the INSIDE of the barrel closest to the INSIDE of the car.

My offsets are ET22 on EC7s I use for track and I run 8MM spacers on the front. This is a BMW fitment as are my street setup SM-10's with ET25 offset.
