To track or not to track - Heat Cracked Rotors

I plan on going back to the track soon (ACS)... Do you think I have one more session left in these rotors or should I replace them?

I can just barely feel with my fingernail the bigger crack seen on the bottom image.

They usually get a little larger before it's a real problem, but if you can, I'd replace them.

Those rotors are perfectly fine, you have plenty of life left in them.

Agree, they're hardly worn / cracked yet.

You are all good sir.

Essex parts has a great article on determining when your iron discs need to be replaced. Some pictures in this article are way more heat checked then your discs.

Wow, I'm not knowledgeable of tracking a car, but if I was going to and I looked at my rotors and saw that many cracks I'd be installing new rotors before I ever saw the track!

My front rotors that I installed about 1 year ago look like the one ATl_1LE posted and still have 2/3 of their usable thickness remaining (original vs. discard). I'm using stock pads which don't wear the rotors quickly. The picture shows heat checking and it is normal if you track the car. It is fine as long as there are no cracks all of the way to an inside or outside edge and as long as the rotors are above minimum thickness.

Robster, measure your rotor thickness to confirm but you're probably fine.

I accidentally ran my last set of front rotors below minimum thickness due to the outside lip touching the calipers I was measuring with before the tips touched the rotor which I didn't realize. I probably would have caught the few cracks that I found earlier turning the rotors by hand and inspecting the inside using a flashlight with the front wheels removed but thankfully I noticed them from the front before they catastrophically failed. There were more cracks not yet visible from the front that I found after removing the old rotors. I had a slight vibration under braking during the session before I found them.

I drilled some material out of a cheap set of Harbor Freight plastic calipers to clear the lip for future measurements or there are more expensive measurement devices that already have more than enough clearance.

Yup, this is exactly what i started looking for as i've grown accustomed to heat cracks on the cars i've been tracking as normal, Oem and aftermarket. Mine are getting noticeably closer over the past few events and still above min width but not by a ton so most likely going to replace over the winter.

Hadn't been looking that far inside for the cracks in your pics though, something to look at.

For sure, I was focusing on checking the outside edge and not thinking much about the inside edge but maybe the wear lip prevented a crack from going all of the way to the outside edge.
