The collective abundance of incorrectly interpreting the information found in the owners manual are both equally astounding and fatiguing.

It's not really that confusing until you get on camaro6

Yes. The owner's manual is clear.

There's no arguing that, Sir. I made my peace with it and am no longer bothered, instead, I'm trying to find some entertainment value in these threads (and still help out the innocent as much as I can).

Also, this isn't the only topic of a similar nature, just check out the 'does the ZL1 1LE ride too rough for a daily' threads with the endless debates, or our infamous catch can sagas. They're like slightly different channels from the same provider

Don’t worry about the loud mouths here OP. Every subject has been brought up numerous times. It’s a forum. Its how they keep going. They just like their high post count. Makes them feel special.

GM dexos2™
GM dexos2™ oils are Top Tier lower SAPS¹ lubricants designed for use in high performance gasoline and light duty diesel engines where advanced aftertreatment systems such as Diesel Particulate Filters (DPFs) are used.

GM dexos2™ oils are typically high HTHS (≥ 3.5cP) SAE 5W-30 and 5W-40 based on API Group III base oils.

The main physical and chemical requirements for GM dexos2™ oils are shown below:

Requirement Method Unit Limit
HTHS viscosity CEC L-36-A-90 cP ≥ 3.5
Sulphated Ash ASTM D874 %wt ≤ 0.8
Phosphorus ASTM D4951 mg/kg 700 to 900
Sulfur ASTM D4951 mg/kg < 3500
Evaporation loss (NOACK) CEC L-40-A-93 % ≤ 13.0
Total Base Number ASTM D2896 mgKOH/g ≥ 6.0
Note 1: SAPS refers to Sulphated Ash, Phosphorus and Sulfur, the levels of which are often restricted in the latest performance specifications.

GM dexos2™ is usually coupled with a range of different combinations of other approvals depending on the viscosity grade of the lubricant, The most frequently seen approvals claimed in conjunction with GM dexos2™ being ACEA C3, BMW Longlife-04, Volkswagen 50500/50501, Porsche C30 or A40 (5W-40 only).

For more information on GM dexos2™ oils, contact your Lubrizol representative.
