Oil pump pickup tube issue

Help! I am trying to re attach my new Melling 10296 oil pump and I cannot get the flange to seat flat with the new pump. Any tips or help? Need to get the car back together tomorrow. I attached a picture of my current view of the flange.

Thanks in advance.

Also I may add that this is an asinine design on GMs part.

Common issues here, do you have the 4 oil pump bolts out? Others have had to remove the inner pump, get tube in and put it back together.

I cut my K member and dropped the oil pan.

GL!

Do you have the O-ring on the tube (where it should and also lubed) or in the pump?
Can't tell from pic

Have it on the tube and it is oiled. I have no idea how to contort the pump to get it started though. The only way is how I have it. The flange is flat though. Not sure why the picture makes it looked curved.

What you need to do is take the torx head bolts loose and take the guts out of the pump. Then get the pickup tube bolted in. Once you get it attached loosely tighten the 4 mounting bolts. Then put the guts back in, shim correctly to center, put cover back on with torx bolts, then tighten the mounting bolts and pull the shims out last.

Got the oil pump pickup tube properly seated now.

New issue per robertway's DIY write up. I cant get the crank/cam to spin after getting the oil pump on. Cam spun freely when installed.

Are your spark plugs out? Your not going to turn the engine over without them removed.

No issues with the pan dropped as far as it will go. Make sure they are all backed out.

Sometimes you have to put quite a bit of pressure on the pump to get the tube lined up properly. Sometimes the tube needs to be bent slightly to get it to line up properly, but taking the pump guts out is the best starting point.
