A8 Shudder- Did you get it fixed?

I know there’s a thread on here discussing the shudder, but I want to see what the typical experience is on here for those who got it fixed and are satisfied. Did the 18-NA-355 flush fix it? Did you need more than one? Did you get a new torque converter? Did you have any warranty or dealer trouble? Did you do something “not recommended” cause it was out of warranty?

2018 RS V6 here with the 18-NA-355 fluid and flush along with a new torque converter. Around 30k now since it was done, and so far so good. Done under bumper to bumper warranty, and dealer experience was completely smooth

My car had ~7000 miles and the shudder started, had the flush done, seems to have gone away completely

I had it done out of warranty, paid $200 for a single flush. It came back after a year (~10k miles). I believe it is because I drove for a good hundred miles or so with the shutter active.

Dealership said they would have to charge again for another flush so I had my AFM tuned out and no shudder since.

Also my $200 price was about a year ago and with looking at dealers service specials for deals. Typically I found it to be $300-400 in my area.

Originally I bought the correct blue label fluid in a 6 quart box and a new filter to do the flush myself but was convinced the dealer would do it right and it would be fixed after since this is the latest update to the TSB issue for almost a year now I believe. I still have the fluid and filter and will do it myself again. Fluid cost me $60 and filter was $30 both new separate parts.

Bought mine with 2 "bad" flushes, then a new torque converter, then a "good" flush. It seems good. I did have harsh shifts and they had to replace the valve body. All good now.

I had mine flushed at 18,000 miles. It's been good until I lost a lifter in cyl7 at 29,000. Time to just delete AFM and rip off the bandaid.

2016 V6. I had the “good” flush done at 20k with improvement, again at 35k with no improvement, then TC replacement at 42k. Now at 48k and it’s awesome. No hassle from the dealer for any of it. When I made the replacement appointment, it sounded like it was just a formality that I needed to come in for a test drive. I think they’re doing allot of them.

Bought a used 2017 SS with the 8-speed auto earlier this year. Pretty sure it did have a flush done on it but not sure as there weren’t any service records with the car and nothing on the Carfax.

I decided to do a flush and filter change myself just in case. Glad I did as the fluid level was 2 to 3 quarts low. I suspect whatever dealership did the flush previously did not follow the proper procedure to check the level.

They must’ve checked the level with the engine not running. Your post is why we PM our vehicles. Even if you don’t have the shudder, it’s a good idea to grab some oil, filter and gasket to change out the 6-1/2 quarts that you’ll get doing this as a DIY.

Exactly. When I did the flush, the amount of fluid missing was exactly the amount I was able to add with the car running.

Noticed the shudder at just under 1200 miles, Dec '18, purchased car new 2/18. Had oil change and 18-na-355 done 2/19 at about 1400 miles. 5575 miles now, still no shudder. Shifts perfectly, quick, crisp.

Went to the dealer a few weeks ago and had it flushed all under warranty, they didn't replace the convertor and no issues so far, hoping it doesn't come back as my warranty is up in a few months

Curious if they have made any improvements to this 8-speed Auto trans on 2021 or 2022 models? Although Im 99% going to stick with my ordered 6-speed MT there is always the chance I end up with a car on the lot instead or a deal falls into my lap where the car is close to what I want but with an Auto. Im scared of the 8-speed due to reading about Class action lawsuits, multiple flushes required, sacrificing a goat to make it work , longevity & life of the transmission, etc, etc.

Is the exact same one as they've always used but just switched stock fluid? No updates or mechanical upgrades anywhere?

Last I researched was shortly after they rolled the newest one out, but they finally ditched it for a 10 speed. As I understand, that tranny has been out for a number of years and is quite good. I think they’ve retired the 8 speed.
