Header question…run cats or go catless

Florida car so no emissions testing
I’ll looking to put a set of 2” Kooks coated headers on my car & I’m trying to decide if I want to run green cats or just go catless. I already have a AWE touring catback non resonated & performance link pipes on the car. I don’t want the car to be super raspy or drone. Not a daily so I don’t mind it being loud, but then again I don’t want it to be obnoxiously loud as well. I still have the factory suitcase so I could always throw that back on as well.

I know the green cats will rob a little bit of HP, but any advantage of running green cats?

Well if you're cammed and catless and run with windows down it gets stinky in car, my wife hates that

I went with 2” headers, off-road mid pipes, to stock suitcase. IMO the smell isn’t that bad, not like I’m standing behind the car for long durations. I wouldn’t let it idle in garage, start and pull it out to warm up.

I've been a catted header guy forever, but my local shop showed me a pile of aftermarket cats that had melted or broken down internally and said hardly any of them don't do it. I think I'm gonna go TSP 2" catless connection pipes this time and see how it goes. I can always add cats later.

Forgive me if I’m wrong but you should work the tune to keep the cats from melting as a priority over max power. So there are different fuel and timing targets. Different tunes.

I’m running ARH coated headers and their high flow cats. I went with the ARH mid X pipe. I paired that into the AWE catback which also has an X. So I now have dual X pipe mids. Sounds amazing but pretty loud. Not raspy IMHO. But it’s a good sounding loud LOL.

Take a look at the CSP 2” headers with their “ultra” CATs. It’s GESI Gen 2 I believe. I have a set on order. Claim 850hp per bank (1700hp total). Granted no stories on how they hold up, but I have to believe much better then the green cats which I think are Gen 1 and only rated for 400hp per bank.

If you want cats...

I wonder how much power csp headers give up to make it easier for them to install them?

2 inch ARH headers, no cats, full ARH system here. Very nice fit. Has a deep “muscle car” sound, it has a low tone rumble around town but a very loud roar at part throttle. Zero rasp which is unusual for no cats. There is some drone to be honest, but not any where near an obnoxious level. I think if I were to run cats on a FI engine, I’d go with the GESI cats to be safe.

Short vid for reference of 1 7/8” ARH with ARH high flow cats into AWE Touring exhaust with dual x-pipes. *Disregard the choice of music. I’m admittedly stuck in the 80s LOL.

I have ARH 17/8 with w cats and ARH long system to factory suitcase. Sounds primal at wot. 18000 on cats so far so good. Approx 750 at crank

None, there headers are custom made stainless works headers, now also fabricated to fit the gesi gen 2 cats.

I currently have kooks 2" and green cats, went through 2 sets of green cats already. Im swapping out for CSP headers and the new gen 2 cats.

See my thread for info.

I will eventually add ARH to my AWE setup.. just wondering why even bother with the ARH X-pipe

Here's the last set of cats I will every have with headers.

ARH high flow after a day at the road track.

One was stuck in the X-pipe... some hanging out the tail pipe.
