Steering noise ZL1
Hi all,
First post in the forum. Can use some opinion. So this has been going on for a while, it’d happen on a full turn to either left or right. Not sure if it’s normal, I have posted a video here, let me know if you can’t see. Thanks a lot https://youtube.com/shorts/ENX0wP_b-Ww?feature=share Last edited by zxz235650; 08-08-2022 at 01:55 PM. |

The link is broken, the extra http:// needs to be removed from the start.
Sounds as if a candy bag got stuck in the steering column , or the tires were rubbing on something as you approach full lock, although that usually happens either at only left or only right. Did you check the wheel wells for obstructions or anything unusual?

Yeah it does kind of sound like something in the wheel well/liner. Do you feel any resistance in the wheel when this noise happens?

Have you checked the lug nut torque? I think it's supposed to be 140 ft lbs.

What are we talking about here?
That big slam at the end of the clip that sounds like a wheel well liner or similar plastic panel snapping/slapping against the suspension (or a loose tie rod end slapping against such panels)? Or the candy wrapper krinkle at the start that sounds like someone dropped a bag of doritos crumbs into the clock spring? |

Check subframe and subframe brace bolts as well as steering rack bolts to make sure they're tight. Also check top strut mounts to make sure they're tight and not moving.

Loose sway bar end links? That was an issue early on and reported here back a few years or more. You have an 18 so maybe.

well not sure if it's good news, but when my car in motion, no noise is heard. Only when the car is stationary or extremely slow.

I'm going with Realist's post about loose sway bar end links to check first. It was a common problem on earlier cars, and is an easy fix.
