POV Going 305/30/19 on the track

Hi Guys, i heard so many guys say that going to a square set up, makes the car handle neutral. So I decided to try it at Sebring, what a difference. Here is my video POV on this set up

Very interesting video. A square set up seems to be the preference for many track junkies. I was looking at my 1LE wheels last night thinking how big a 20" wheel really is on the car. As you stated, I'm sure it is mainly for looks. Heck the ZLE comes with 19" wheels rather than 20s, so that should tell you something about what is better for the track.

Did you weigh the 19" wheels and tires versus the 20" wheels and tires? Just curious what the difference in the unsprung weight is between the two. And I'm sure have larger front tires certainly help with braking as well as turn in as they should provide more overall grip.

I've autocrossed my 350Z for a number of years and I use a set of 18" Nismo forged wheels on the autocross course rather than the 19" forged set of Volks I usually run on the car. My 18" wheels and tires aren't a square set up, but the 18" wheels are lighter than the 19s.

Hi ZP, there were gains all around, with this setup. Cornering was neutral, better acceleration and better braking all due to less rotating mass (and wider tire up front) there was a 5lb weight savings per wheel, with the heavy RT 660s 32 lbs ea. tire
if I go with SC3Rs I will save a total of 8lbs per wheel @ 29lbs per tire, the car will be even better.

Thanks. That's good information. I suspected the weight of the 19" inch wheels and tires was less than the 20" wheels and tires. That coupled with a larger tire on the front has got to be the difference in your car's performance.
Unsprung weight is a performance killer.

Many people don't understand that for every inch you increase a wheel's diameter the weight of the wheel generally goes up exponentially, even with a forged wheel. That's why I don't understand why people put 24" inch or larger wheels on vehicles.

I think larger wheels are for looks, not performance. Lemans cars, GT cars, F1 cars all are 18-19in, so there is definitely a reason for this.
