Battery

So car has been slow cranking only in the morning. I had it tested and O’Reilly said it’s still good?? I bought a new AC delco one from Chevy anyway.

Any thoughts that the battery just won’t hold a charge overnight? It is 4 years old and has never seen a battery tender….

Headers a ceramic coated and the starter is wrapped so I’m hoping it’s not a started issue.

But I guess I’ll find out in the morning.

Could still be the starter, indirectly, because of the crappy grounds these cars often have. Have you considered the "canonical" fix of adding a new ground strap or two as described here: https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=586153 ?

It helped my Camaro tangibly with warm and hot starts, even though it had never failed to start, the starter was clearly struggling before adding a big thick strap. Now it's much quicker and expends less effort, even with my 4-year-old original battery.

I’ve looked I to it but it’s not a problem when the car is warm. It’s I lay in the morning on cold starts. Now… maybe it’s in my head but I kinda feel like it starts up better when I don’t have straight E85. Like if I have a little 91 in the tank I “feel” as though it starts better. But AGAIN I don’t think it’s a fueling issue either.

I tested the batter after arriving home from work about 1hr of drive time. I should have tested it in the morning.

We’ll see what in the morning what happens.

That sounds like a classic cranking amps problem, likely due to a bad battery.

Yea that’s what I’m hoping. As I mentioned, I put in a new OEM battery today. It had 2 vent holes. I put the vent line in where it was before but the other one wasn’t plugged. I put a piece of tape over it but idk if that was a bad move.

Funny, my explorer had the same symptoms but only when it was hot and it wouldn’t start at all. Started fine cold. Replaced the battery and all was good. Battery was so bad that the doors wouldn’t lock with the fob.

That's not just in your head, cars definitely crank longer in colder weather with E85 in the tank.

Well it’s started up strong this morning so I guess the battery was on it way out. Also had a few gallons of 91 in it to smooth things over so who knows. Just glad it wasn’t the starter

FYI the positive cover that came with your new battery (red) has plug/cap built into it that can be twisted off for the vent.
