Pilot sport 4S arent cutting it, where to from here?
So I am having a bit of a situation
I have Michelin Pilot Sport 4S in 295 wide rear on my SS, which is now around the 610HP mark and 870nm after the Whipple install. The tyres are pretty good for normal driving but once I really get into it they dont hold. Where do I go from here? Any suggestions on what tyres will do the job? Car is a weekend warrior so I dont mind going softer on it if needed, also being in Aus I dont have to worry about snow. Wet performance will be required. Thanks |

ZLE sizes maybe? ...305/30/19 and 325/30/19. I'd stick with PS4S for street use, they are the best tires for the application imo. You can get more track oriented tires but I'd save them for use on a track. ZL1, SLE and ZLE Goodyear Supercar 3/3R tires are not very good street tires.

Get a drag radial, the nitto 555rII are not a dedicated drag racing tire but more like weekend warrior and has soft enough tread for better take offs and can still handle the track. Wears out quicker but thats the fun part right?

That said, SC3 needs some heat to stick. If the ground is cool and/or the tires aren't up to temperature, they don't hook up quite as well as PS4S. Once the heat is there, though, SC3 embraces it while it kills PS4S.

The GY SC3 tires are excellent in hot dry weather but you have to drive careful in wet conditions. Trust me when I say that but I find them hard to beat on my ZL1. I had a set of them put back on when the original SC3s wore out on my ZL1.

PS4S is much better in wet, lasts many times longer, much more consistent across temps. SC3 can be really sketchy if they're too cold! I'm saving mine for track.

If I do have two sets, then I could do PS4S for one(or something that's 80~90% as good for 50%~60% of the price as Michelin tires are not the best value), and probably SC3R for the other, since streetability is no longer an issue. With one set, you have to make some compromises. I am leaning towards track performance and value more and that's why I like SC3.
