If my car used a qt between oil changes I’d be jumping up and down and screaming at my service advisor. If it burned a qt every 1000 miles........I’d be getting a new engine or I’d trade it away.

I'm having flashbacks to my GT350 days. Those you never had to change the oil, you just had to add it.

I've used 2 quarts in about 9k miles with one track day and a lot of spirited/fun driving. I don't think that is bad considering what kind of engine/car it is etc.

This is extremely unscientific, but I kept my one track day 15-50 Mobil oil in all summer and it seems to like to burn that more than the 0-40 Dexos.

I only run Mobil 1 15W-50 and only drive my car to/from track and mechanic. I burn about half a quart per track day. Not sure if normal, but I haven't investigated it. Car seems to run fine.

That's surprising, even our 2004 MDX with 170k miles consumed zero to less than ~1/2 qt per 5k miles.

Maybe there was a break in issue with the CRV, if someone drives a new car hard when it's cold I don't expect good results. Some people start it on a cold morning, drive 1 mile to the freeway onramp and punch it.

IMO it is from breaking them in with a full synthetic. See the same thing in modern 4 stroke outboards. Break in on Dino oil to let rings seat. I bought my car with 1900 miles so it was too late. But the car runs like a scalded dog . Just my opinion

Oil Consumption

Zero usage in 6000 miles. 2k of that on a road course.

Mine is using a little bit of oil, but like minn19 mentioned, i too had a gt350 and Ford didn’t consider that voodoo as needing replaced til it burned more than 1 quart every 500 miles.

So OP don’t buy a gt350 lol, because waiting 6k miles you could’ve gone through more that the engine could hold and you’d get to pay for it...

Does Chevy have a mileage limit set Per quart for replacement on these?

21k is just barely broken in and shouldn't be using any oil. If it were mine I'd run a leak or compression test but so many problems could have occurred.

As much oil as these cars hold, if you maintain the level, you can probably run with 8 quarts even for extreme driving / track days with no issues. I don't recommend this, of course, but two quarts down on these cars is not like 2 quarts down when the capacity is 5 qts or less.

That would piss me off on a car like that.

WOW you guys that are ON ME about checking oil levels every 400 miles are really ON ONE.... For what reason would you do that on a car with less than 20k miles????

PLAIN AND SIMPLE IT SHOULD NOT BURN THIS MUCH OIL. regardless......

and to whomever wants to know who taught me about motors tell me how many motors YOU built that did this???

Quote:
Yep... that's me driving and the motor that I built and maintained..... so please can we keep the topic on how frequently i check oil levels on a car that SHOULDN'T burn oil in like the first 50K miles.....

A warranty most certainly does cover LOW OIL LEVELS if the engine is burning oil when it should not. I don't track this car nor sling it into corners..... If I did I would MAYBE be ok with it consuming a quart between oil changes every 4-5k miles....

A warranty would not cover if the "OIL LOW" Light came on and i kept driving it like a moron... that's not what we're dealing with here......

I mean it's pretty simple.... We have LOTS of dudes in here with NO oil consumption..... We have MOST dudes not coming in this thread because they have NO oil consumption....

And the leftovers are probably the ones who may have improperly seated rings..... i'll just tell the dealer to start doing the oil changes and every time it comes up under serviced i will document then start the lemon law research...
