If it was okay Chevy would have put the redline there.

Not a big deal but I’d pull the valve covers and inspect the springs and take the pushrods out to see if they’re bent.

If a spring is broke you might not know until u drop a valve

Is there a write up on here for pushrod/spring tear down and inspection? I've never been in the head of a pushrod motor. How extensive of a job is that? Any special tools needed?

I think you are Ok.

If you floated a valve and bent a pushrod you'd likely hear a new tapping sound you didn't have before.

A member on this site just went through this.

He's got his car back now, but he did have engine damage and it was pretty obvious right away.

I too have done this.
New setup runs Johnson slow bleed link bar lifters and hi quality pushrods. Also trunion and zeroed out the xam phaser.

How hard of a job is upgrading the lifters, pushrods, and springs? I know swapping the cam is a big job, but what about just the parts in the heads? Is it feasible to just pull the valve covers, inspect the springs/rockers/pushrods, and put it back together with normal garage tools?

Though I suppose at that point youre probably better off just having the heads shipped out for porting and a new valve train installed.

Yeah LT1 is more work then previous LS generation.
Yeah its 8 on scale of difficulty. Not recommended if you haven't done it before. When you mechanically over rev the engine if any damage is done you would immediately know it so you do not need to wear e about damage that may show its head miles down the road. Drain the oil and send it to be analyzed that will give you peace of mind

IMO if you kissed the piston you’d know right away but you could’ve just broke a valve spring. Then you may not hear it at idle. People find broken springs all the time when they open the covers, it’s happened to me with a pac1518. Top of the spring broke off. Maybe it drops it valve maybe it won’t. I’d want to know if it’s cracked.

Taking the valve covers off and even the rockers is as easily as it gets

For peace of mind, it sounds like the best course of action, without going crazy, is:

1. Pull the valve covers
2. Remove the rockers
3. Carefully inspect the springs, without removing them, and check for cracks
4. Pull the pushrods and check if any are bent
5. Put it all back together

And on the next oil change, send a sample to Blackstone. What would I be looking for in the results? Signs of metal?
