Any advice you recommend for him? You think a 20x10.5 inch wheel in the rear is the best all around way to go? Could you still fit a 315 NTO5r on 20x10.5s without issues, or is it better to stick with 305 size radials like the other Nittos, Toyos, and Mickeys on a 10.5 instead of going with the 20x11?
11" rear wheel can be made to fit without rubbing but it will poke slightly on a Challenger. A Charger has a little more room under the rear and can fit an 11" without poking. I ran a 20x10.5" rear with a 305 tire for almost two years on my Challenger Hellcat before I went with a wider wheel. No issues at all and fits like a glove. a 315 Nitto will fit on a 20x10.5" wheel, its jut not the ideal wheel size for a 315.

Of course they are, you said Nitto recommended running a G2 on the front. My point was, of course they're going to recommend their own tire. They're not going to recommend you run a better tire like a Michelin on the front.

If you do lower the air pressure on them and do a dig mind letting me know how they performed?
I tested both versions at 23 psi, According to Dragy I 60ft a half tenth quicker and 0-60 is 2 tenths quicker on the 555r. The R2 break loose above 4500rpm when I try to put the throttle to the floor where the 555r would grab. On the street with a light first gear burnout, I am rolling into the throttle off the line. Log shows 40% throttle by 9mph, and 100% by 28 mph( So it's not like either tire dead hooks). This netted me 1.8 60ft and 3.1 0-60 with the 555r and 1.85 60ft with 3.3 0-60 on the 555r2. I have the air pressure lowered to 21psi now and will report back when I get a chance to try a couple digs. I did try a 30 roll from 2nd and they hooked as good as the 555r.

All that being said, for most people I would say the 555r2 is going to be a better all around tire even if it ends up having slightly less traction from a dig. The stiffer sidewall, higher speed rating, stabillity, and longer tread life make it worth the trade off for those that drive their cars daily.

They seem to be a nice improvement over the factory GY runflat that come standard on the SS. Much quieter and ride better with no noticeable loss in handling. I don't road course my car either but I have taken a curve at 75-80mph and they handled fine. The only complaint I have ever heard about the G2 is they don't have very good traction if you run them on the rear...but honestly no street tire wheel will with cars that are 550+ wtq. So far I am very pleased with the G2 up front and R2 in rear.

My experience has been that the 555R2s hook up better than the 555Rs.

What tire pressures? Did you compare both from a dig and roll?

I'm pleased with my 305/30/20 RII's so far. I'll run them more next month so I'll report back.

Good to hear man thanks for sharing. Let me know about those digs when you can. Also have you tried a first gear roll at 30 mph? Maybe even a 20 roll? Wonder if they would still hook. If they lose traction at those low speeds do the R2s recover quickly enough and take off well?

With the performance mods that you have to your SS it seems like your car is up there in power like the ZL1 if not more, so if those tires are hooking decently at your power level then it must say something.

I was always curious as to why people could run the same tire and have different results? Even if it could be the same exact car with the same power and same psi. There must be other factors involved as to which tires put the power down better for some people.

Of course there's other factors. None of us are scientific enough to document every factor that could make a difference though. My car is a 1000+hp Hellcat so its pushing the limits of a Nitto drag radial about as far as you can go.

Oh yea I have tried it all. both versions will hook from a first gear roll if you heat the tires up a bit. On cold tires they break loose if its below 70 degrees outside. The colder it gets outside the harder it gets. Once you get below 45-50 degrees you won't even hook from second gear...then its leave traction control on. We are getting close to those temps around here. So my days are numbered for testing. I like 55-65 degree sunny days that heat the road up but the air is still cool.

I just installed these tires on my 18" wheels. Initial impressions...great on road feel. The first time at the track on them, they hooked up pretty well on the first pass... After that, it was a little sketchy. The track prep wasn't the greatest so that could've been a factor.
My next time at a different track, I was struggling to get traction. Again, maybe the prep wasn't as good as could be. I did manage a spinning 1.62 60' though. I will give them another try tomorrow, if they don't work, I will consider moving on to a set of MTs. I'm not trying to say these tires are bad, the rubber feels very soft, I'm willing to give them a chance. I am definitely happy with the way they feel on the road.
