Muffler Delete back pressure??

Today at the track I couldn't break 13.9... I just got my muffler delete on the L99. I tried alternating psi to stick I tried everything.

Two weeks ago I was running 13.5~

You guys think this is due to my muffler deletes?? Someone mentioned back pressure problems with taking out those huge mufflers...

I'm going after market anyway now, but I'm just wondering if this is why I am running such nasty times, or is it just me not being able to stick....?

I had a muffler cutout/delete with my 1992 Firebird Formula 5.7. It dropped my 0-60 about a half a second. So that sounds about right. Go muffler if you want the best track results. Go delete if you just want to be loud and awesome.

I'd look at the temps and track before I pointed the finger at the mufflers. Try not to eat as much next time.. that should shave off a bit

Track was a little bad, lots of people were having trouble sticking......

I checked the temps very often. I usually let it sit 30mins between runs and would blast the heater to get the coolant temp down. I was running with a coolant temp of 203-207F. I even took my ruck out of my car and put it in my friends car!

Tried different PSI. Tried everything. I just couldn't hook.... I was spinning horribly compared to previous weeks... I'll go out there tomorrow and try it!

Seeing as how you weren't the only one, I place my bet on track prep.

There is a trade off between HP and Torque when you change the exhaust back pressure.

What were your 60fts on the slower times compared to two weeks ago when you were running 13.5s?

Was their a mph difference that was significant between the two?

My husband and i took ours off before going to camsro fest, we were the twins with the black with orange stripes, i have the automatic and he has stick, i ran a consist 13.5 all day and he couldnt get better than a 13.8, i ran him 3 for 3 and beat him evertime, i didnt lose a race, we love them off and the sound, they were holding water and weigh to much!

husband said same thing about his stick, he had to let cool down as well and he said he was having a bad day and i was having a good one not true, the back end of automatic have more torque even though they have a little less horsepoower, and yes sticks were having more problems now he wants to race me our home town at the track and still isnt going to matter!!

Had a '90 ZR-1 put on 3" exhaust on cat back and noticed she lack punch, even without racing I could tell I lost some HP.

Spoke to a tuner said 3" was to much, went down to 2 3/4" exhaust and all the power came back and then some.

Remember like I always said with every action there is a reaction. Sometimes good sometimes not so good.....

more importantly what were the MPH's? what were the MPH's of the other cars? i usually use LS1's or LT1's as a gauge. If i see almost stock LS1's trapping 105-107mph (LT1's 98-100) then i know itll be a decent day at least. But ive been to the track when LS1's would be consistently in the 99-102mph range (95-96mph-ish LT1s) when the weather was seemingly pretty good (track is at sea level and DA was OK), so go figure. If youre running slow and others are running slow then thats usually just the nature of the beast but if youre the only one not really in line then maybe it is your car......I dont think the muffler delete hurt power though, especially if you have your stock sized pipes. My friend deleted the muffler on his LT1 slowmaro way back when and that thing ran way better like that. and actually wasnt even THAT loud, sounded decent.

It shouldn't matter on a s/c car.....turbo cars resond very well. NA car alway lose power with little to no backpressure
