EPA impacts to the vehicle performance world

My previous car was a '16 Whipple supercharged Mustang that was tuned by Lund Performance, probably the best in the Mustang world. To this day I still follow some of their content on YouTube and just found out that Lund Performance was stormed by EPA officials with search warrants to basically look into vehicle modifications and emission defeating devices (i.e., catless LT headers) that technically break Federal law. The Feds apparently collected a bunch of information, which included a forensic search of their computers and then left. As of now Lund is continuing their daily business operations but not sure what will come out of this. Lund did say this is very concerning for the future of tuners, performance shops, and companies that sell performance parts.

Could this be trouble for the enthusiasts and the performance industry going forward?

They are probably going to get a huge fine if the EPA finds proof that they have altered emissions equipment. It happened to Bully Dog a couple years ago. The EPA takes their customer info and is going to see how many units they have sent off into the world, and base the fine on that. Then they will probably force Lund into a consent agreement to at least try to change back everything that was changed with their software.

I think the K&N got busted but it's case was brought by CARB, not EPA. Cold Air Inductions won't even ship to California after what happened to K&N and says "Not for sale or use in California" on its website under specific products. Casper's Electronics got busted too for selling O2 simulators maybe 10+ years ago. You can buy them all day long on ebay, but if you make and sell them in the US the EPA comes after you. It isn't fair, that is just how it is though. If you get big and get on the EPA's or CARB's radar. they are coming for you!

Ditto. I've signed it, even though my hopes for NJ legislature actually listening are slim.

I used to live in NY for many years so I definitely feel your pain and know it's like shoving s**t against the tide when it comes to the state legislature.

Thanks brother. It's very true, yet we can't lose hope no matter what, especially seeing this
