engine cover removal

I searched the forum but no luck. I took the engine cover off to be able to see the engine better. There is a insulation material on the intake that looks bad . Can it be removed and what is the best way?

If you're talking about the material underneath the intake manifold then you can take that off without errors. I believe it's just there for sound dampening, the v8 guys take it off usually when changing intake manifolds

I've replaced all six spark plugs since owning my 2017 6th gen. I tore away small sections of the material just so I could reach the spark plugs. I'm almost certain it won't hurt.

My son is trying to convince me that it is insulating the intake manifold from engine heat.

Never heard anything like that, you'll be fine on removing it. I've been running mine without engine cover for tens of thousands of miles and I know guys who have removed their plastic insulation underneath the intake manifold for the same amount of time without issue.

All you're getting really is just more noise, no issues should come up as long as you put the bolts back on properly and not loose.
