Cost of HP
I have a 21 ZL1. I am reading all kinds of posts about building cars to 750 -800 HP. And I am reading many posts about engine issues. I am not a mechanic. Please through me round numbers to get a car to 750ish HP by a mechanic. Callaway wants 20k to get to 750 but 5 years warrantee from the dealer. They screw it up they fix it... I think that’s the same as 10k then having problems and having to repair it for 5 years out of pocket, no? Im not sure what way to go and want to hear some opinions please. Thanks Dave

I think 750 to the crank is usually a bit more than that; 6-8k.

Give us the names of one or more of these shops so I can call them. Thanks.
I spoke with LMR and they wanted $18k for closer to 700 hp wheel with no warranty.

The stupid 2017 with the A10 I snagged off eBay as a rebuilt salvage title not only cost me $30k but came with the lousy kooks headers, 9.17 lower, green belt, roto fab and a tune. Stupid guy just left me a catch can, ported tb, jms voltage booster and e85 sensor to install and retune. What a crappy deal! On a cool morning down in Phx it probably only makes 675 at the wheels with e50 mix. He even had the audacity to leave the near new Toyo r888r's on it. What a moron. But I made sure they ain't near new anymore. Near gone now!
So I'm just taking a wild guess...on what these mods cost. |

Well my guess for my mods were based on self install vs shop install. Fairly close, though I'm guessing some of the upper shops doing that list would be higher then that.

Vengeance charges $20,000 for 830-850 flywheel or 700-720 wheel, which is inline with every shop I've contacted. Vengenace has a 90-day labor warranty, no parts warranty, does not include hauling. HPE also will sell you 850 flywheel for $20k, no warranty. LMR and LPE same.

For their Stage 2 package Vengeance charges around $7500 for up to 100 hp more. So JSH your numbers are pretty much spot on with all the aftermarket companies. Seems the more hp you want the more it will cost!

Here is Katech's pricing. I think they have a 3 year/36,000 mile warranty, from what Zach told me when I spoke with him a couple months ago.
Their Stage 4 is probably what I am going to do when I am ready. ![]() https://shop.katechengines.com/?s=&y...=G6+Camaro+ZL1 |

The 800+ WHP range will be even more expensive than what is being tossed around due to the fueling to do it right. This can easily be a $7-10K mod depending on which way you go (port/XDI) with it. I’m well over $25K in mods and still have to do the fuel system this year (again lol)...
![]() Meth is obviously much cheaper short term...but much more expensive long term if you know what I mean... ![]()
