A10 TCM tune or not to tune

The car is a 17' A10. Mods are mild. Roto Fab, Ported throttle body, 2" kooks headers-no cats, 9.10 lower (problay going to 9.55 to go with the LT4 lid and meth that is on the car now but not active tell new tune). On another thread about remote tuning https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=527695 most are saying no need to get into the TCM at this level. Had one tuner say we needed in and another say likely no reason to at this point. Any info would be great. Tune with out TCM at what mods or tune with TCM at what mods.

Thanks a lot
Travis

I wouldn't with that level of mods. I probably would if I wanted to set the shift points higher like after you add a cam or make a lot more power. If anything, I would probably wait until GM releases their programming before doing anything.

If you do decide to go with more power in the future, I would. Mine has been done and it's lightning quick. Downshifts are downright scary too! Good luck!

If you have an A10, I would definitely send the TCM for a tune. Right now you have pulley, intake, ported TB, and a lower, with increased breathing (intake and headers). I would talk to a reputable shop and see what they say (Cunningham, Vengenace, WeaponX) my guess is 3/3 of those shops will tell you to send the TCM to be unlocked and tune the car properly.

for reference , I installed a rotofab and tried to tune afterwards WITHOUT sending the TCM to be unlocked... while we picked up about 40 extra torq, we could only increase the HP by about 18. he could see that the system was locked out and he could only make small adjustments to lean the system out a bit. When I do hard pulls, I throw a code, which resolves after driving a bit. You have what I have + ported TB and a pulley. If it were my car, answer 1-10 would be YES, tune.

I purchased the 2.3 griptech upper recently with green belt. I am going to drop it off at my tuner's place to have the TCM sent to HP tuners and unlocked, add the 2.3' upper, retune, and hopefully be done.

Hopefully you realize he's talking about the Transmission. The ECM is not locked and is what you would to tune for all the things you just listed.

No way anything needs done to the TCM with these mods.

Do you have an A10 or an M6? The TCM in the A10 is locked and has to be unlocked to get any real gains from a tune. You can not tune the A10 without physically removing the TCM and sending it to be unlocked (usually HP tuners). This has been covered multiple times here by anyone that has attempted to get more power out of the ZL1 with the A10

here is one thread from HP tuners forum
https://forum.hptuners.com/showthrea...aro-zl1-tuning

there are other threads on our forum as well. If you are going to add those mods, and do an ECU tune, send the TCM to be unlocked and do it the right way. Again, don't take my word for it, contact vengeance, Cunningham, or weapon X and see what they say. I defer to them (however, since I have spoken with 2 of the 3, I know what they are going to say)

Actually I had the 2nd Production A10 off the line and one of the first to run into this issue. No need to get your panties in a wad as I mentioned E CM was not locked. I know full well about the TCM and for these mods no tune is required. The air fuel mixture has nothing to do with the TCM.

nope, not upset at all. yes, you mentioned ECM, I never did.. the TCM doesn't HAVE to be unlocked, but there are plenty of reports of how the car drives regarding shift points without modifications. You know this already though, and you know that any of the reputable shops are going to tell hm to send the TCM in

It is now on the bottom end of things I want to get accomplished. I am going very minimal upgrade, so its not very pressing. I bought the parts, they are sitting to be installed. may try to drop it off within the next couple of weeks.

I've spoken to Vengeance and a few other reputable tuners and they all say under 800 whp a TCM isn't necessarily needed. That being said I'm around low-mid 700 whp range and I'm going to unlock and send out my TCM for tuning shortly.

Yeah, I spoke to them also, and they told me the same thing... you don't HAVE to, but they recommended it, because if you know you're gonna add more power in the future, just get it unlocked and tune it the right way
