Lansing Grand River Plant Layoffs 10/6/23
Today, 10/6/23, there was a layoff of some temporary workers at the Lansing Grand River Plant where Camaro's are assembled. I think the layoffs took place after today's UAW announcement that there has been some progress in contract negotiations and there will be no strike expansion this week.
Does anyone know if this is a planned downsizing due to Camaro production winding down over the next 60 days or if this will impact the remaining Camaro build out? https://www.wlns.com/video/temporary...plant/9062821/ Last edited by The Zebra; 10-07-2023 at 02:27 PM. |

It certainly can't help. What better way to send off the Camaro than a big "up yours" to the people that want one!
They're actually selling now and it's like they're going out of their way to end it as early as possible.

I read somewhere the end of production is November for Verts and early December for the coupe, due to these issues

Don’t blame everything happening at Lansing on the Camaro. The Cadillac CT4 and CT5 are assembled there too, and together the sell at less than half the rate of the Camaro.

I was talking a sales manager Thursday and he said he can no longer order the Camaro and they are shutting down production even earlier than planned. He though next week they stop accepting orders for coupes and the following week convertibles. If GM has not accepted your order good luck.

This was announced be Gearhead a while ago. 10/19 is last allocation although the last several allocations have been heavily restrained with manual transmissions being on restraint this week.

We have known for a while now that production of the Camaro is ending 12/7/23 for coupes and 11/22/23 for convertibles and that the last allocation is 10/19/23 and that orders must be submitted before 10/24/23.
i was just wondering if anyone was 'in the know' about the details regarding the layoff. I received an email from Chevrolet today telling me my ZL1 order is on schedule with a TPW of 10/16/23. Last edited by The Zebra; 10-07-2023 at 02:28 PM. |

Or, maybe GM is just leveraging the strike as a layoff to get rid of 'dead weight' temporary employees who aren't really contributing (always calling in sick, late, sleeping on the job, drinking on the job, causing problems...)

While that would be a solid strategy Union contracts have mandatory recall clauses that require companies to rehire laid off employees based on seniority even if they are not worthy of rehire.

Email from Chevrolet?!? Wow, never heard of that before. That's some normal auto maker stuff, not something I thought Chevrolet was capable of.. kidding aside, is this just a zl1 thing only?

Absenteeism is 20%. The union is saying “hey if we only had to work 32 hours instead of 40 (they don’t actually work 40) absenteeism would be less. Would LOVE to see the union simply say, “we will eliminate absenteeism if you just give the 20% to the people that will show up every day”

I sent GM customer care an email asking if my 10/16/23 TPW date is still on track and they replied saying the date is still 10/16

BTW, who gets a pension anymore? Those went out of style decades ago. Here come the replies, "well so and so gets a" and "so and so gets a". Not in my world. |
