350 to 400hp is perfect for street use. I make more at the wheels than a ZL1 or GT500 makes at the crank. Even on 325 MT et street R's. It'll spin on launch. A coworker of mine has a 850 wheel 17 M5. Had to trash a set of toyo 888r's because they were spinning from a 40 roll. Is it fun to hit light speed in a few seconds? Sure its a rush. But its overkill for the street.

Thanks for linking that. A must see for those who doubt the kid’s ability to drive.

Kid can definitely drive. Which probably made the car look better against the competition.

"Dominates" GT3RS and ZLE... on P4S tires...

Yeah, the kid can wheel the car. But without lap times, 'winning' HPDE is pretty meaningless. He even states corner speeds were lower than the GT350R, which is slower around Willow than both the cars he "dominated".

Sometimes you gotta use that power to merge or go around someone and it is right there. Plus, at $60K+, I'm gonna enjoy it as much as legally possible. Yea 400-500 HP might be sufficient. But the difference in feel, even part throttle or 3/4s throttle, between a SS and a ZL1 or a SRT8 and a Hellcat is night and day.
I agree that on these factory high hp cars it's not that that easy to lose control especially with TC on, but lol at needing that power to merge.

This, but obviously he's playing to his base audience and their biases.

Well, I always figured the R would be a better handling car vs a Base GT500. But if you put Cup2's on that Base then the gap is much closer. But with the HP and DCT vs a manual I expect overall lap times to be better in the Base. I'm sure the CFTP will handle better than the R. But the R is just a phenomenal track directed car especially in the corners. It could use another 25-30 rwhp from the factory and still maintain its perfect balance.

My point was more directed at the title and the contents of the video. He was maintaining the same corner speed as the GT3RS, on P4S tires. The Porsche was not being driven anywhere near its potential. Maybe even scripted...??

https://www.motortrend.com/news/chev...ck-comparison/

A few things I noticed.

First is that they didn't compare them in the quarter mile. Suspicious.

Second is they didn't mention the actual times. They said the Base GT500 and the C8 Z51 had comparable lap times and then hint that the CF version beats the Vette. Ok but I would like to see those lap times. I'm guessing that even tho they claim the Base and Z51 times are comparable, the Z51 probably pulled a win.

Third is they claim the price is "similar". LOL!! So the Z51 which without any add-ons comes in at $64,995 while the Base GT500 is $73,995 and the CF GT500 is $92,495. But they are "similar" in price. It looks like a bunch of things were equipped on the C8 which might be why it was close to the price of the GT500. Such as the upgraded seats which is like $1500. And it looks like they had the black painted rims which is an extra $2400. The body color roof is an extra $995. I'm guessing it was the 1LT version tho. With those options added on the Vette would be like $73K.

Lastly I wonder why they skipped over the ZLE. I wonder if it's because they needed the Shelby to win at something and the only way to do that was against the Vette on a track. LOL!

So it doesn't look like any of the GT500s can clean sweep the C8 Z51. If the Base wins in the quarter mile it doesn't look like it'll win around a track. The CF might win around a track but at 11.4 it isn't going to beat the Z in the quarter. And against the A10 ZLE it the CF would probably be about tied in the quarter but lose or get matched around a track. All this and it has an extra 265 HP over the Vette, 110 HP over the ZLE, and costs about $20K more than both. I think this shows where balance gets you and how much you would need just to keep up with a very well built car.

What's it take to beat a Vette? 265 more HP and a $28K higher price!! But you'll only beat it around a track...by a little bit...we won't post the numbers!!

I'm sure the CFTP will be faster than the R, but I don't think it'll handle better. Faster lap times do not equate better handling necessarily when there is such a big discrepancy among other variables. I wouldn't be surprised to see the base put up better lap times than the R at certain tracks but doubt anyone would call it the better handling car.

Speed Phenom also has a base with handling pack not just a base base.
