A10 Tap Up 2nd gear in manual ?

Is it possible while in manual mode, and while not moving, to tap the trans up from 1st to 2nd gear? HHP told me this can be done, but I tried it today with no luck (?)

I haven't seen it. I believe you have to downshift to 2nd before coming to a stop and it stays in that gear. That's how I've got it to work. I can't force-shift it from 1st at a stop.

Unfortunately not with the 10spd Auto. The 8 spd auto was able to do that, but not the newer 10speed.

Best regards,
Dave

Just curious as to why one would want to do this (traction/MPG)?

Because higher-power combinations can blow the tires-off so much easier with that really short 1st gear ratio. Starting in 2nd can help reduce effective torque from the line.

For a stock tuned A10, no. I've tried it a couple of times when others have asked.

1st gear is very short so starting is 2nd gives the car a better launch and more time to gain some MPH before needing to shift. Plus helps the car from making the tires go up in a smoke show. It's good for those that drag race or red light race. Doesn't benefit us who do what the car was meant to do.....

Thx, that is what I was thinking (traction), especially for launches. I’m new to the A10 and never tried really hard launches in my previous 6MT ZLE. Going to play/have some fun with LC when the weather gets warmer so good to know.

Don't use the factory launch control. It's ok but the old school method of foot braking works better.

Thanks, I’m sure I’ll try both methods for research purposes of course.

It can be done in the tune. CSP does it. Not sure about 2020+ with the tcm swap but should be the same.

Correct me if I am wrong but from what I seen CSP tuning doesn't allow you to upshift to second from a stop. It keeps the trans from ever downshifting into 1st on the A10 when in manual mode. Granted the info I seen from CSP was from a couple years ago. Either way there isn't much in the A10's tune file via HPt that allows any changes other then TUTD shift scheduling.

Like King' said below - the only video Andrew shows (that I know - and I've watched all videos, except the Tesla garbage) is him coming to a stop and all that I just described. Maybe he was holding back more, but I'm with King' on what he's said. He's got a lot more experience than me, but I've been over my TCM file for as long as it's been installed, and it all matches what CSP posted. I'd like to know if I'm wrong though.
