Does GM recommend break in for these performance Engines??

I was talking with a buddy who just got a new bay boat & mentioned he was going to do the break in on the engine this weekend...it has always been recommended for performance outboards as long as I can remember & got me to thinking if it's suggested on these sort of vehicles or just get in & go boogy.

If it's like the Z06 it does it automatically. Your rev limited is auto controlled by the ecu and will not let you rev high as the redline is moved down lower to 4500.

After time it sets up to where it is supposed to be at 6500 then the fun begins. Think it's 500 miles...

The zo6 does not limit you to 4500rpm.... I have driven a couple of them and also been in the passenger seat for some spirited driving with less than 500 miles on both cars.

The yellow warning bar is lower for the first 500 miles however. It also comes back on when the car is cold.

Yes, there is a GM break-in procedure.

It doesn't 'auto anything'.

Thanks...that link makes it clear as mud.

I'll hash it out with my dealer & make sure we are on the same page.

Sorta funny, when I went in to mark my territory for the ZL1 they insisted I test an SS...the sales guy kept telling me to wring it out & I kept it an honest test drive. He asked if I was getting a car with much more HP, why I didn't open up the ss.

One, there isn't a safe place to really find out what I want to know & this SS isn't gonna be what I'm getting. 2nd. someone else is going to buy this & I wouldn't want the future owner to know it was maxed out by someone who had no intention of buying it. Kinda awkward but I think they understand.

I certainly wouldn't be pleased by test drives on my special order vs one I picked off the lot. That would be insulting.

Yellow warning has nothing to do with redline. Yellow continues for life of car when cold ... Check out the HUD. The redline is clearly diff in break in period and this was a hot car. Driving for 1
Hour at this point for the pic.

Yes, the redline on the displays are diff during breakin, but the rpm is not limited.

Ha! It says according to the Corvette forum, another bastion of misinformation ....

As a tech editor on the corvette forum, I can tell you the rpm is not limited. Not on the c7 vette or the Camaro. Ask anyone here, you can go to total redline right from the dealer if you want .

Read the thread title from OP

Bottom line is YES GM has a breakin period no matter how we slice it !

That's not your premise; your premise is the ecu cuts power during breakin, it does not.
