However, the new SS is so good with the new stiffer and lighter chassis, MRC and LT1 that I do not miss the GEN 5 1LE. The limits of the new SS are so high, you will be hard pressed to discover them on the street. So, IMO the 2017 1LE really is a track focused car and in order to appreciate all that 1LE specific hardware and technology you need to get the car on the track. |

I think that is a fair point. You often hear that you can go from the dealership to the racetrack but when you get to the track they won't let you run unless you flush the brake fluid and replace it with Dot4.

Anything you can do to increase V6 sales makes business sense, given the production figures it's easy to calculate the ratios. There's also a lot of buyers in the current market that are happy with the V6 and don't necessarily want the V8 engine. Far as it being a 1SS option, I personally think that it's pretty cool. The original 1LE cars for the third generation and LT1 based 4th gens didn't even have air conditioning! So getting back to basics is really cool to me.

You could get a sunroof as an option on the GEN5 1LE but be careful since most 1LE purists will harp on you for adding weight to the roof of the car as well as losing headroom for a helmet. I had a sunroof in my Gen5 1LE but I think I used it 3 times. The roof only opens like 12-14 inches so it doesn't give you enough open feeling to matter much, plus is adds $900. You also lose that reverse Mohawk roof line that many like.

The lack of a 2SS with a 1LE is due to weight savings.....
You will all see soon enough.....

That is the reason I didn't go with the 1LE this time around. I don't track my cars and I felt the new SS was so good and offered more performance than I can ever use on the street so I went for the 2SS goodies. For those of you who do track the car you are in for a real treat with the 1LE. It will inspire a ton of confidence and enable you to push the car to the limit. You just need a track to be able do that.
