New Katech 160 & 174 degree thermostats for LT engines with OEM quality

We started using one brand of thermostats and they were failing open, causing check engine lights. We switched to another brand of thermostat which then had multiple failures closed, causing overheating problems and an engine failure on the track. So, we made our own thermostat using OEM quality components so they will not fail. Rigorous development and quality testing was done to ensure a reliable product.

What are the benefits of running one of these on a stock LT1? vehicle is mostly used for autocross and track days. By your post, I'm lead to believe that a tune is required to run the 160* thermostat?

Benefit is the engine runs cooler and your timing map stays more stable. Car will make more consistent power all the time.

I have a 160° on my SS 1LE with the Procharger. At the time there wasnt many options so the shop had a custom thermostat housing made that uses the LS1 style thermostat.

This is great! I’ve avoided using any of the aftermarket ones currently on the market (Mishimito, etc) because of the horror stories, but this Katech one will be a no-brainer.

Is the 160 stat from Weapon X on the list of garbage? I am getting ready to install mine in the next week or two. I’d rather throw it in the trash if it’s one of the ones cooking engines.

It’s highly unlikely that you’ll get a straight unbiased answer from them about that. They’re showcasing their new thermostat so inherently, it is to their benefit to proclaim superiority or a lack of intimate knowledge from their competitor. To that end, Katech and WeaponX have some history/rivalry that I’m sure doesn’t help. Nonetheless, I’m sure this is a quality piece as Katech isn’t in the habit of making low quality products but, neither is WeaponX.
