Average skilled driver. Z/28, GT350R, ZL1 which car would give you the best lap time?

So, say you have two cars and in the hands of a professional, and car Y puts in a faster lap time than car X. But with the same cars in the hands of an amateur, car X puts in a faster lap time than Y because the amateur is more confident in car X. Note, I am NOT saying that the amateur's lap times are faster than those of the professional driver.

I think the bottom line is testing can/is skewed in many different ways. I do prefer the amateur numbers as well as they are obviously more "real world".

I was so close to pulling the trigger on a Z/28 instead of my SS 1LE. I love my car, but there's just something special about the Z.

When you take C & D, MT, Milford, Nurburgring and every other track where they run you can get a pretty good idea of the capability of the car no matter what driver, weather etc. I would put the most confidence in Randy and the GM drivers for pushing the car close to it's limit.

EASY ANSWER - ZL1. I track at COTA quite a bit and have run with Z/28s and GT350Rs in my little SS 1LE. The SS is touch faster than the Z/28 on times and similar times to 350R. The 350R slowly pulls away in the long straights and I real it back in everywhere else. Probably a tiny bit faster (1 second) on track due to long straights at COTA (power wins). The Z/28 is great but a tad slower everywhere. It does not like to rotate. So, put these 3 cars in the hands of the same driver, same track, same day - ZL1 hands down. I love the other two cars and would own and track either proudly, so no prejudice. Assuming NO mods to any . . . .

I don't know that it matters as all are great choices for tracking! Just drive and improve your skills.

C&D Lightning Lap 2017 ZL1 ILE crushes everything below a 488, ZL1 A10 beats GT350R

ZL1 1LE beat the C7 GS, 991 GT3 RS, 570S, 991.2 Turbo S

http://fastestlaps.com/tracks/virgin...e-post-01-2014

ZL1 A10 beat the 991 GT3, NSX, 991 Turbo S and the GT350R

Nice.

Side note the new AMG E63 S is a beast, easily whooping the 2017 Panamera Turbo plus any other luxury 4 door and giving the 2017 SS 1LE a run for it's money!

Only gripe I have with this test format is different drivers for many cars. Still great to see them all out there smashing. I loved the AMG GTR vid.

Tony Quiroga generally get's the fastest laps in the sportier cars, I think he has almost all of the key ones I mentioned.

You will see the most of the fast cars get the same driver. The only real difference is either different day or year.

I'm sure some will claim that the year accounts for the 2 second gap on the gt350R

Or that the 124hp and 221lbft of torque deficit somehow accounts for it.

The Camaro track car vs the mustang track car is all that matters. And its not close.

But what about the flat plane crank, the carbon fiber wheels and R rated tires?
