GM Exhaust sealant

I recently separated primary and secondary cats from the LT1. The connection point to the second cat had a flexible gasket that looked like permatex. Does anyone know the part number GM uses for this. It looks to be designed to seal the 2 cats with the band in place.

I asked the same question, cause the GM stuff works, never got an answer.

I believe this is sealant for oil pans and gasket replacement but not exhaust. I can't find anywhere it mentions temperature rating. The gasket like piece did not look just like a sealant only. It looked to have aluminum and sealant as one piece. Thanks for the part number.

you talking about the gasket on the drivers side pipe. If yours was sealant then its been apart befor. it supposed to be a metal gasket.

Jcunningham. I'm not talking about that gasket. It goes around the connection joint of the primary and secondary cats, under the band clamp. It looks like they put it there to seal up the gap. I'm trying to see if I can find what it looked like to show a picture.

Mine, after 4000 miles was still wet/elastic. If formed a great seal. I say it is proof positive that aliens are here and evidently work at GM. I would like to use it again on my band clamps and slip joints..

something like this:
http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalo...rmatexprod.php

"
High Temperature Gasket Sealant is a slow drying viscous paste. It remains pliable and flexible and is designed to seal flanges, threaded connections and fasteners at temperatures from -45° C to +315 "

Yes. It was still wet and elastic. It has to have a higher temp rating than that stuff. I would imagine pipes get really hot there. I want to use it for my kooks header collector joint and off road pipe.

Welcome, that's from my wife's 1SS. Mine got destroyed getting it off, it was the blind leading the blind when I was doing it. After I knew what to expect, her exhaust was much easier to remove.

Sorry I dont know a part number.

Heath

Unfortunately the factory service manual seems to show that as a single part for the clamp and gasket (#5) if this is the part you're looking for. The repair procedure is to discard and replace with a new clamp. The clamp was around $80 on the web site I checked.

That's about what I figured. I didn't think it would come in a tube.
