Choosing a Cold Air Induction

I am trying to choose a Cold Air Induction system. What do you guys recommend. Currently my car has not been tuned but plan on some small tuning in the future.

I went with the C.A.I. brand and I love the see thru glass enclosure and you don't need a tune to run it. C.A.I. or RotoFab are the two most popular ones here on the forum for our cars with great results.

The Rotofab unit looks almost like GM put it there, similar to the Z28 open element intake. They both perform well. It boils down to personal preference. Also K&N make a REAL carbon fiber one. $$$ but looks really nice and am sure performs like the others.

Madoc85,

CAI and Roto-Fab have proven to proved the best power for the ZL1. Both have picked up over 20rwhp on our dyno when we tested them.

The CAI has a the clear top so you can see the filter. That top also does a good job of keeping some of the engine bay heat out of the filter area which will also keep it out of the engine.

The Roto-Fab uses a thicker gasket that will seal up against the hood. That also does a good job of keeping the heat out. The plus side for Roto-Fab is that they can paint match the heat shield for you.

Either kit you cant go wrong

Thank you,
Ricardo

I have the Cold Air Inductions intake. Looks great and definitely wakes up the supercharger. I talked to one guy that said he gained almost 30whp from it. Maybe he was lying, but you'll definitely gain 20whp. I just wish they had more color options like the Rotofab. The CAI also has a velocity stack MAF housing which improves airflow and, as others have said, an insulated airbox (which works great) to keep the air cooler going into the intake.

I used Lingenfelter intake , Great quality , however some people might see that its abit expensive compared to other intakes but def worth the money . Sc screams when revving or at WOT. & the nice part it doesnt require a tune...

Just installed a Cold Air Inductions CAI. Took about an hour. Looks really nice. Supposedly adds 20hp minimum. It did feel slightly peppier, nothing drastic, but it's there. The huge difference was the supercharger whine which was awesome. This thing sings now! Love it!

I tried so many of them over the years, always with a Tune! A few days ago i installed a R2C CAI, and let me tell you! Amazing throttle response, off the line, mid range and top end! has a unique sound... no cel lights, Tuner ordered thru JRE. Tuners with a updated tune for 91 or better make all the difference in power.

Look at the stock Z28 air intake system, modeled after the Roto Fab. Roto Fab uses a injection molded plastic intake air tube that does not act as a heat sink unlike the Cold Air Industries metal intake air tube.

You mean "Cold Air Inductions"? If that's who you are referring to, they thermally coat the velocity stacked air tube (or MAF sensor housing) to keep hot air out. The other air tube is silicone. The stock Z/28 intake looks more like the Airaid one, IMO.

I went with K&N kit, found it on Amazon for a couple hundred less then most places sell it. I like that its all carbon fiber and fit was great...also has gasket to seal it off to the hood.
