How to remove mirror lenses from housing?
Hello,
I finally received the carbon fiber full cups. Just having a hard time unsnapping the mirrors. Does anyone have any tricks? Only videos I can find are up to 2019 which I thought were the same as a 2023 ZL1. All they do is grab on it from the back as close as possible to the center to avoid mirror cracking and just pull and it unsnaps. Well, this darn mirror is glued on there. I feel if I put any more pressure I'll break either the mirror or the motor/base. Any tips? Thanks |

Let me help you with a few pictures of the backside, because I have a spare pass side glass (because #partshoarding and #2024istheend).
There are 8 hook style plastic clips in that black inner ring that clip onto the base, and indeed they should come off by exerting an even pulling force outward. I marked them up in the photos in red, hope you can get a usable view. I'm sure there is a tool that grabs the glass on both the bottom and the top to be able hold it steady while pulling, you might want to figure out a makeshift mirror glass puller... that said, the glass is thick and strong, and so is the plastic retention ring, at least judging by its look and thickness, hopefully you can get this done without any damage. Good luck

Yes something along this line that distributes the pressure over the surface while pulling, a 2 1/2 to 3 inch version would work

Also please post final comments regarding fit and finish, I was considering them to complement my other carbon fibre highlights

Thanks to arpad_m for the awesome pics. It definitely helps to visualize the internals, thanks so much!
Also, thanks to Calgary for the tool idea! I will certainly look into one of those. I will report back on fitment. So far the finish quality of the CF is amazingly pristine, unlike the LA Street fighter spoiler that I bought. The spoiler edges, you can tell there wasn't all that detail put into them. Not terrible but could be better. The edges on these cups are amazingly finished without imperfections. |

This is an interim update. Did manage to remove the glass by hand as opposed to a tool by grabbing first 2 tabs then working it out slowly.
This project is definitely more than my patient can handle but I wanted the mirrors badly so I must go through with it. First mirror came out great fitting wise after I sanded down edges. Ill post photos later. I have to do the passenger side. Last edited by 2023ZL1RapidBlue; 10-01-2023 at 09:04 PM. |

I had to swap a glass out on the wife's RDX. Getting the old one off was a touch tricky... Basically, maneuver the power adjustments until one of the outer edges leaves a slight gap that you can get something in behind the glass. A microfiber towel between that "tool" and the paint to protect the paint and then gently pry the mirror until it starts to come off.
For me, since the glass had a chip in the corner and that was the reason for swapping it, I wasn't terribly concerned about breaking the mirror or the tabs holding it into the car, but I -did- want to ensure that I didn't do any damage to the plate it was mounted to or the actuator that controlled the position of the mirror. So, i went slow with steady pressure and ultimately had no issues getting the old glass out. The new one pops in surprisingly easily. |

As far as how easy he makes it look... I guarantee one or both of the following: At least one tab on the glass was broken because he had it off previously or he knew exactly where to position his finger to pull back on at least one tab while prying the glass (you can sort of see that his middle finger seems to be positioned where it could be pulling at one of the tabs). |

The mirrors are done at this point. I did post a review on autoaddict's website. See link below: I'm hoping it is ok to post an external link. (Sorry about the sideways photos, can't figure out why they're sideways when the originals are right side up) What you see in the first image is fuses, that's correct. Someone posted a video online and he was using blades. Sharp blades. I opted to be safer and use fuses lol https://autoaddictusa.com/products/2...39831208722503 |
