nice, although they are only talking about low end power. the 1st and 2nd gens would run out of top speed (not to mention high speed stability) quicker than a 3rd or 4th gen.

As a proud 6th Gen ZL1 owner, I gladly step forward to accept the top award for all my fellow 6th Gen ZL1 owners. Thank you and Godspeed to all!

whats really amazing is that the 5th and 6th gen 6 cylinder cars would give the first two cars on the list a good run for their money.in 1990 an IROC Z was about as good as it got.

No BBC, ranking means squat.

That being said, the new ZL1 performance package is why I stepped up & bought one. It really is the epitome of a balanced factory offering. While many focus on 1/4mile times, which said article fails in comprehension of the definition of what “fastest” really means, by using 1/4 mile time/ET rather than top speed, the Camaro was always intended as a road race competitor.

NM, it does say quickest...

Yep...only 2, 3 and 4 speed transmissions available then. And a modern 6spd man, 8 or 10 speed auto and they will top out well above 150.

Because of gearing mostly. The High pressure fuel injection also helps. If you put them on a Dyno the old school V8 will be actually putting out more power.

maybe more torque, but 323 horsepower out of 217 cubes is nothing to sneeze at.the SS would need to be putting out way over 550 horsepower to approach that level of efficiency.

Could you get 455 out of a Gen2 LT1? Sure.
Streetable @ 350 ci? Barely. 383/396 was better.
Street Legal/pass smog? NOPE! No way.

Been there. Done that. It took a lot of coins to get 450ish on the street N/A.
It took a lot of coin to go the blower/turbo route too.

There were few stock BBC's that could match the power level we are at and they were not RPO's.
Remember, before 1971 all factory motors were rated at GROSS horsepower, not NET horsepower like today's motors.

The blower cars obviously are the winners here, but to pit them against a slew of NA cars to declare winner is slightly skewered.
You still win, and I am glad you do, but it’s a * next to the word supercharger.
The rest of 6 Gen V8’s gets second place, the V6 is third making as much and more HP as the old SBC used to.
