L99 to LS3 build with blower and cam...need help

O.K. kids, I am taking the plunge and having the L99 built as an LS3 using GMPP ported and polished heads. All of the L99 stuff is going bye bye and of course this means a new cam. My car currently has the E-force supercharger on it which I intend to retain. We are also adding 1 7/8" Stainless Works headers and high flow cats to my existing cat back 3-inch SW exhaust as well. Should make nice power. Now, for those of you who have done this, what cam did you use and how is drive-ability? Which cam did you go with and did you have to change torque converters with your new set up.

Looking for guidance here.

Thanks!!

With just about any cam that will make decent power, you'll want to do a torque convertor to absorb some of the lope and give you better drivability. It will also keep you in your power band better.

We use the BTR stage 3 and 4 cams in our PD blower cam packages; they drive very well and make great power for being an aggressive cam. We also have a very nice L99-LS3 conversion package with a plug and play front cover.

Feel free to call, PM or email me anytime with questions and we'll be happy to help get you setup.

Best regards,

Tyler

+1 on the BTR cam. Mine is somewhere in between 3 and 4 I guess. Really good manners and makes excellent power. The whole car gets to rocking back and forth at a stoplight and I can cruise a parking lot in 1st without having to feather the car around with the clutch. Not to mention the lobes and lift are easy on the valvetrain with tons of PTV clearance. Zero regrets on picking the BTR cam.

Sounds like a nice build! I would decide first whether or not you wanted to change your torque converter, and go from there. If you don't want to change your converter, we have a great cam called the Crazy Joe (LINK).

It's on the stealther side, and makes great power (here's a blog with it- link, and another - link). Both of those customers are doing superchargers later this year, so we spec'd the cam with that in mind. The performance will be excellent with the blower as well, and both of these cars have the stock converter. Drives just like stock...only difference is it really hauls ass.

If you want to go bigger (lopier) on the cam, and have no problem adding a stall, check out our 545. That's also been designed for SC cars and it's like we are installing one a week it seems! I run it in my own TVS 2300 car. Here it is in an L99 N/A car - link. Eforce LS3 car - link. TVS LS3 car - link. The driveability with that (with a converter and a tune) is fantastic also!

Why would you get rid of the VVT? More power across the entire rpm range is pretty nice!

Also, eventually your high flow cats will blow out and stop up the exhaust. They can't handle all the extra flow and heat from FI.
