16 SS vs 17 GT (Dyno Day)

Went to a dyno day with a buddy that has a 17 5.0, both cars are bone stock with axle back exhausts. My car is a m6, his is a a6.

First pull I made 421whp, he made 367whp.

Second pull I made 425whp/435tq, he made 367whp again.

Nice!

To be fair, the auto will obviously dyno lower than the manual.

There were a few m6 fbo 5.0s that didn't even break 420whp.

And to be fair that Mustang 5.0 auto is just about as fast as a M6 CA6 SS at the dragstrip despite the perceived power difference.

I've been 7.83@93 on the oem tires, he's ran a best of 8.06@89 on his drag pack

Coming from the coyote 5.0 world myself, I'm greatly aware of the their capabilities.

Yea the Camaros make more hp to the wheels than the Stangs do. By quite a bit. And that trans in the automatic SS makes it a beast. I think M6 to M6 tho, the SS would still have more HP, but the car would perform a bit closer. Once forced induction is added to both cars is when I think the Stang eclipses the SS.

I knew I wasn't gonna have the $$$ to go blown on my 15 GT. That is where they shine. On motor though, there is simply no comparison. 435 lbft to the wheels???? Let me tell you with the torque and DI, it's no contest as to which one is more fun to drive day to day. I went 8.10 @ 90 on Conti DW's in my Stang with Stainlessworks catted longtubes, Palm Beach Dyno tune, resonator delete, MGW shifter. And that was at an awesome sticky track slipping the clutch some. I beat several "faster" cars that day. I watched a Viper running 8.50's-8.60's.

Having previously owned 2 coyote 5.0s 367 is a bit low. My last one (2015 pp) was 383 stock. However the difference between the two cars performance wise is rather large. The 5.0 in automatic form can't get the 3.73 axel or the performance pack parts. I believe in a 1/4 mile race the auto and pp Mustangs run about deadeven.

At 421 rwhp based on average of 20% drivetrain loss for the auto....that puts you at 505 crank hp.

He's an M6 and the losses on these 8 spds (Dodges too) is closer to 12%.
