just a guestimate:
14 hours work
$1000 for the cam and springs and I guess a few lifters if you have an auto
$400 for the tune..

I guess so. I'll do the work myself just don't know if it is this summer or next.

I wonder what's the total hit of cam and heads being removed. At this point in time, I feel like is a good time to do both and get a full valve train to take advantage of a nice agressive set up.
You can always check out also the henessey camaro, just for guidance on packages and hp expectations.

At the amount of labor required may as well buy the forged drop in wiesco pistons and do those too while the engine is up and out.

Crazy what's required to do a damn cam swap lol

That's cheap for a tune. I'm paying 650 for mine and hell have the car for 3 days.

The oil pan has to come off along with cross member which looks to be in two pieces. That said, it is never ending if you are doing pistons, then you should do rods as we are talking 7000 RPM engines at some point. and then C5R timing chain and PP heads, and dual valve springs and pushrods of course and studs for the head and then trunion bearings for the rockers. Just off the top of my head...

Your right. But all those parts hold up to a out 900-1000hp. The pistons are the issue once approaching 650. The ring lands start to come apart on the LT1

Stock rods at 7000 scare me, especially with a heavier forged piston.

Plus we all have a definition of holdup. My Type R has 225,000 miles on it and far over 15,000 high RPM shifts (8800 rpm to 9500 rpm) Stock crank, block, bearings and bore. Several sets of pistons and an aftermarket set of rods... If you are telling me a LT1 with stock short bock will last long at 900 -1000 HP, well maybe, we all are different. If I were going to 700 HP you can bet your bottom dollar I would just buy a whole new crate motor to start off with and build from there.

Corvette guys have been doing it for a couple years.

It just depends on where and how far you want to go.

Fuel is also an issue upwards of 650-700 horse so there's multiple hurdles here

That's a big jump, don't you think.
And if I'm doing the bottom end, might as well look for larger
Pistons and add displacement along with a good crank.
Heads and cams IMo is a good medium set up all motor in the 500whp range.

Things aren't becoming as simple as we expected, are they? Lol

As far as tune, three days? Is that because the person is new to the system using a flash ?
Sounds like you're tuning a standalone set up lol vs. flash
And I thought several hours was enough.

A proper tune on a never before tuned H/C setup will take about 2 days to dial in. Unless you have a load dyno you will still not end up with a perfect tune. Most shops do NOT do anything resembling a proper tune. WOT tuning is the easiest part of the entire process. Idle and part throttle is where the process gets very time consuming and literally takes hours or days to get right. The shop that has gone to that effort for their H/C packages is a shop I'd be willing to spend my money on if I wasn't going to do it myself.
