Rock guards - do them or not?

Figure if I'm going to do them, I should do them when the car is brand new, before any potential damage occurs from not having them. I'd love to hear from those who do not have them installed (and have say 10k or more miles on their cars). Do you wish you had done them, or is there really no damage on your sides or rear fenders...?

I have the small GM Color Matched Body Side Splash Guards, 6,800 miles and not a single rock chip... I would do something before you get any damage if you want to keep it looking nice...

I went with PPF with the added benefit that the full front, mirrors, and windshield surround are covered as well as the sides of the car. No issues 9100 miles and still looks great after 5 years.

Doing nothing is not an option. You will regret not protecting the paint on the car. If you're not going to do PPF on the rockers & spats, then get the rock guards.

Alas, these don't fit the ZL1 or a Camaro with the full ground effects package, because its rear valance has a tall overhang on the side, unlike on our cars. His only option is aftermarket, either something mudflap style like my (amazing) Rokblokz set, or the near OEM looking (and very much OEM-priced) ACS Composite guards.

^^^ fair point: side skirts provide most of the protection on the ZL1 out of the box, and the non-1LE SS has narrower tires up front that can't throw that much stuff very high.

That said, the absolute best, almost 100% protection is side skirts, wide mudflap style rock guards and PPF on the rocker panels, maybe even the quarters.

Rokblokz says they are not confirmed to fit ZL1’s. Have you seen them on a ZL1?

Yes, and ACS fit better. You get what you pay for.

ACS require extra holes. I’m not doing that, but to each their own.

Yeah the poke on the front 1le wheels leaves the paint no chance

I was really worried about that when I ordered the ACS. There was something about drilling holes in a brand new 70K car that just didn't sit right with me. When I looked into it further the only drilling is into the wheel well liner. You don't drill into anything metal.

Yep, same with me. I figured the liner already has push pin holes from the factory and it holds up perfectly fine. So, a couple properly placed holes w/large rivets to hold the guards in place isn't a big deal.

The zl1 addons ones are only $100, which seems great. If they fit well and are durable, I'm inclined to go with them. Any reason not to, other than that the ACS ones fit a bit better?
