here goes the old fat guy

got my car up in the air about 2ft on good jack stands. gonna pull the tranny and send it off for fork pad replacement and new syncro/ blocker rings. knew I was ready for a fail but I didn't know when. bought it in 18' used with 12k on it with bald back tires. got 42k on it now. did the ranger bleed etc. no help grinding shifts. might just do a clutch while I'm in there. thoughts??? had a monster single disc set up in my 02' with a tick master and remote bleed. no problems. but ive read we have the zo6 clutch in ours. I have a 14ss. 3:70's with trutrac 1le axles, bearings, bmr lowers and toe links with black poly bushings. would like about a 600hp clutch sigle disc. any ideas?cryo trans gears would like a solid bushing set up for my MGW . don't care about vibration etc. I liked the click click click positive engagement of my old t56. any opinions would be appreciated . I'm a road warrior, spirited when available. couple times down track in the future. just for an old mans bucket list. thanks, the oldman....

Can't go wrong with Monster or McLeod. Get the upgraded slave bushing, a new OEM slave and speed bleeder. Check the clutch dimensions before you reinstall and save yourself a possible headache

The MGM shifter is great. I added more sound deadening in the tunnel to lessen road noise.

If you want throttle response and much better feel, replace the diff bushings. I used the delrin/poly BMR kit and it by far the biggest change I've made. You get some NVH from the diff, but the car feels much more controlled

I've always liked what people had to say about Monster and they always take the time to answer questions. I have just never pulled the trigger on one.

I run a Mantic triple in the turbo car and like it. I did run Monster's billet bearing support in the turbo car before putting in the triple, which uses a ZR1 CSC.

When my daughter spun a bearing in the vert, I did not have time to mess with it, so I had the machine shop do the R&R and had the clutch changed at the same time. I upgraded it to a cammed 416 and they sold Ram clutches, so they put in the strongest single disk organic Ram had since my daughter was supposed to be driving it. Long story short, I have the vert too now and I like how the Ram clutch works. It has slightly more pedal effort than the Mantic, but it's not grabby or anything like that. The vert has a 3.91 if that helps you make a comparison.

camarocracka, what do you mean ZR1 CSC ?? I'm green to abbreviations. can I put a zr1 clutch and pressure plate in my car? are they the same? I'm going to look on gm parts direct to see if they have the same part numbers. thanks for the info.

I have had a mcleod and mantic twin disk and am now running a spec 3+ single disk. For my car, the spec is by far the best of all three setups. This is with 610 rwhp.

CSC = Concentric Slave Cylinder aka hydraulic throwout bearing. I'm pretty sure you can't use the ZR1 clutch. I had my Mantic upgraded from a twin to a triple, which adds height to the clutch. The ZR1 CSC is shorter than the CSC out of the SS allowing the bigger clutch. Don't get stuck on factory clutches. IIRC, the unit that came out of mine was from Luk, who make a bazillion clutches for lots of manufacturers.

The install was pretty easy. Make sure to take time to accurately measure the slave gap and have a remote bleeder installed. This clutch drives like original but handles repeat drag runs.

I'm a McLeod fan myself. Throw the RST twin in and enjoy.

thanks for all the input folks! yanking out my trans this weekend. shipping it off for upgrades. besides bronze fork pads ,got any ideas? cryo? shot peen gears? anybody make poly bushings for an mgw shifter? love the shifter, but the bushings still make it mushy between gears. I like the click click of a solid shift like my old t56 any ideas??? thanks, the oldman
