Second set of wheels

I purchased a new 2020 ZLE about 2 months ago. I’ve been driving on the factory 3r tires, which are great when warmed up, but I mostly street drive and mountain cruise. I have signed up for a couple track weekends over the next year, but won’t be tracking it more than that. That being said, I’ve been debating on whether or not I should get a second set of wheels to use for every day and keep the stock wheels and 3r tires just for the track or if I should just put street tires on the factory wheels and save the money. 85% of the time is sunny day driving, 10% is curvy road mountain cruise and 5% is track.

If I got second set, I like the factory wheels or may get some apex wheels.

What would you do?

If it was my money I'd go Apex with Michelin Pilot Super Sport. If I was spending your money I'd buy another set of factory wheels with Michelin Pilot Super Sport.

I've got three sets for my ZLE.

1. Stock OEM 3Rs and wheels for dry track days.

2. Apex stock size ARC-8 with stock size PS4S for summer DD and wet track day.

3. Apex ARC-8 19X10 front and stock rear with Michelin Sport A/S 3s for late fall/early spring cold and dry winter driving up here.

I have Apex ARC-8 19X10 front and rear with Michelin Sport A/S 3s for my daily and keep the stock setup in the shop, I always have two sets for my vehicles to include an extra set for my 2012 RAM 2500 CTD.

Thanks for the replies. I’d love to have a track set and a street set. Would be nice even for the mountain cruises.

That’s what I did. Saved the Factory wheels & tires for the track. Ordered some signature wheels in factory spec wrapped in 4S

When I ordered my ZLE I knew already I was ordering a second set ot wheels. I ordered the 2015 Z28 wheels with the Michelin PS4S tires for it. I keep the original set for track time.
I literally just had my car on the hoist for maintenance a couple hours ago. Glad I bought the second set cause I can tell you the 3Rs would have been toast long ago. Myself and my coworker, we are both seasoned mechanics, were very surprised at how well the Michelin’s are holding up. Very surprised as my car is spinning the rears all the time. The 3Rs would have been gone. I love having fun in this car which is why I bought it and also the main reason I got the second set of wheels. Not cheap but I would highly recommend it.

The day I picked up my ZL1 (non 1LE) and drove home from the dealership and got caught in a downpour... I was literally aquaplaning at highway speed. The following day I ordered a set of 1LE OEM wheels (which I love the look) and 305/19-30 Pilot S4 and 345/30-19 Pilot Super Sport - Impressively the back wheels mounted with tires are 1.5 LBS lighter in the back and a full 2 Lbs in the front with much wider tires than the stock in 285/30-19 and 305/30/19.

This set is used for every day drive and road trips. And I now I am contemplating purchasing another set for eventual track days and spirited hot summer day drive. So far I have my sight on some BC forged wheels with Pilot SC2, same model and color than the one in the attached picture. Hope this helps..

I bought the Apex APC-8 wheels with the ZLE specs and wrapped them with the Goodyear’s. Going to use them the first time tonight at Lowe’s motor speedway track night event.

I grabbed some Apex wheels in the factory ZL1 offset (used, great deal) and I will be using those for daily / cruising. Always good to have a track set and street set to keep the track tires low on heat cycles and wear.
