Please tell us how it goes, and how much it costs you. If you are putting in a new GM pump, I'm not sure how GM could tell if the work was done by another shop. I suppose you could also have it done at the dealer, no?

That made me feel better about the car.

I've seen people say they got another year on the power train warranty and around another 12k miles. I'm definitely looking into it.

So, I was skimming through this thread and may have over looked it, but is there a definite 2017/2018 month range for the failures? My car was ordered in Jan 2017 and shipped in March.

So they had the car for a total of 9 days and that is with the 4th holiday weekend where a few of the techs were off and on vacation. It was done in 8 days and picked it up on the 9th. Pretty happy with the turn around and really a smooth process. He was getting all the paperwork in order so I don't have any of that yet, I just signed and off i went.

Need to log some miles but everything seemed great. Oil pressure is definitely running a little higher than the last pump.

Does the Dealer have to perform the work to get the job warrantied? If not, perfect time to add a cam and have GM pay for the labor.

different manufacturer(ford), but i tried this with my voodoo replacement. i asked if they could do the OPG/CS while they were at it and i'd foot the extra labor and parts...got a hard no. others that asked got the same reply, but if this were me i'd ask anyway...never hurts to try.

ford wouldn't let me install a warranteed splitter myself either.

I was thinking more on the lines of have your own shop that you choose do the work but get paid by GM. Just dont know if warranty work has to be done by a dealer exclusively. I know on extended warranties work can be done by other shops, not dealers.

No matter how few listed here or on the internet, GM will never let us know the real number of failures. lt is still way too many for a car this powerful...and expensive. GM won't even discuss the various oil pump part number changes.

I'm at 7k miles...no issue so far, but l worry about a long road trip and having a failure. I was hoping by now the aftermarket (or GM) would have fixed this super shitty oil pump design on this motor, but nothing in stone so far.

I really love this car, but a 911 Carrera S is starting to look a lot better for what l want in a road car.

Take care..

It's a relatively small number of failures and essentially none with the 2019 refresh

With that said GM needs to be able to design an ultra reliable oil pump. The variable pressure design is likely the primary issue. Whenever you introduce complexity you introduce more failure potential. 911s have their issues, too, hope you don't do your own work on engines

ZX10R...

Great video. Hope to see if this guy's mods work out...since nobody in the aftermarket world seems to be doing anything about this pump. Most of the pump failures shown on this site seem to be because of a broken ring...maybe a bad batch of metal not heat-treated properly or ?????

I would keep my ZLE for life if l knew my pump would never fail.

I don’t think that is unusually low for hot idle.

I think I just joined the club.

Got the "low oil pressure shut engine off" message just as I was pulling into the pits after a track session. The engine felt and sounded fine but immediately parked it. After about an hour I started it and got the same message so shut it down. A fellow ZLE driver (thanks Jud) had a scanning tool so we were able to do a scan and up came the PO6DD code.

After a call with the dealership I use, it was clear that it is very likely an oil pump issue. They recommended to trailer it to the nearest GM dealership - which is unfortunately about 250 miles from home as I'm on a road trip when this happened. Anyways, in it goes and won't know much until Monday.

Mine's a 2018 ZLE with about 20,000 miles and was a 2017 build date (not sure of the month).

Thinking about a trailer now.......
