Sorry you guys are having this issue. I'd have a very hard time trusting the car after if it happened to me. And another very hard time trusting that it was "fixed" based solely on a software update. But, who knows these are very computer centric vehicles nowadays.

Thanks for keeping us updated and obviously glad something very bad didn't happen to you guys.

Interesting...

I ran a search here https://www.repairprocedures.com/ser...100305617.html without positive results.

Anyway thanks for the update cirpower. Greatly appreciated. It appears that I have no other choice than hoping for the best with my dealer. I will take your diagnostic info with me in hopes that it will expedite the process.

PM sent.

Related, but not the same.
I had a rub through on the alternator charge cable, when it shorted out in a hard left hand turn (with significant braking), the steering wheel would jump ~70 degrees and the car would be all over the place. I needed to change shorts too. This was in a 5th gen.

I only bring this up because it wasn't steering control or signal wires. The power into the steering system must have dropped enough to freak it out. Check power wires upstream of the steering controller and motor while you're under the car. You could have an intermittent open or short

Good luck, very interested in what the root cause is

Yup.

19-NA-130: Steering Wheel Chatter, Shake, or Instability

2017-2019 Camaro

"Some customers may comment on a steering wheel chatter, shake or instability during low speed conditions such as parking lotmaneuvers or when stopped. Refer to the video below of the condition."

"The cause of the condition may be an anomaly in the power steering software."

The TSB just outlines to re-program the EPAS.

Follow up:

After no success in pushing to get the symptoms to repeat and triple checking all of my related wires and harnesses for wear or shorting. I finally got her into the dealership this morning.

As per suggestions from cirpower, Mountain and h018871 (thank you gentlemen for the feedback), I took in all related TSB's and service bulletins (19-NA-130), which of course showed up when they ran my VIN. Their savvy Corvette tech re-flashed EPAS software and double checked my loom padding work and I'm hoping that the problem has been solved.

BONUS; I got to drive a C8 Z51 3LT... very sexy. I am however VERY happy with my decision to go ZLE and not wait for C8.

...It will be interesting to see what Z06/Z07 brings to the table, but that is a conversation for another time.

So if you're car is remote, Like very very remote here in Bangkok. How the hell do I get GM to reflash the EPAS software (what ever the hell that is)? Every time I read something like this, it really bothers me. To know that I can't do a damn thing to fix this. It's not like the old days where everything had to be a mechanical issue. Obviously this is some kind of electrical/software issue since the OP said when he walked out of range with the Key Fob, only then did the wheel cease it's convulsions. And since I'm driving a 2019, this could happen to me....

FWIW, EPAS re-flash seems to have done the trick. I completely trust the car again.

Cosworth/C pi (post re-flash) has shown quite a few Max Lat G numbers that are significantly higher than OEM ratings without any issues.

Amazing performance value, I love this car.

Following because I had a similar issue last night and also about two weeks ago. After driving the car for about an hour, I arrived at my destination. I was doing maneuvers to park the car and I put it in R shortly after putting it in D. The steering wheel felt really hard to turn, I felt as if it was not responding (but maybe this had to do with the car being stopped and with no power steering). I also got the message "Service Rear Axle" on the Digital Instrument Cluster. I switched off the engine and then back on again and the message disappeared and everything returned to normal. I drove the car today with no issues.

I highly recommend getting and EPAS re-flash. I have had no issues since.

I'm not certain about the availability of Chevrolet service in the UK, but it should be covered under your warranty.
