More top end?

After running the car against some real decent competition, I just cant help but feel the car has a poor top end (90-100+ or so) in comparison to other V8s ex: coyote , c63 etc.

What can be added to help the top end?

Mods on car : 2"TSP, RF CAI, PP IM/TB, E85

It is inevitable, really. It is difficult to match the breathing and top end power capabilities of DOHC cars. You have to either out muscle/torque the car or hope you have better gearing.

In your case, better top end breathing can be had with a ported MSD, over your ported stock intake manifold.

Magnuson Heartbeat will get you plenty of top end. Not sure why your only at 90-100, you should be running 115 in the quarter or more.

I think he might be referring to the A8 4-5th gear drop. That gear needs wound out higher then the rest..

I have your same sentiments. I have PP ported stock IM and VMAX ported TB along with the other usual boltons. I wreck most modded S550 Coyotes from any speed unless they have the CobraJet intake package installed. Then I almost always lose at the top end by a car or so even though I pull on them by the same from a DIG or at the first 40-50mph from a 30 roll. As others stated, ported heads and a ported MSD will be your best bet in making up that mph difference between the two.

For sure...H/C/I cars are trapping 134-136 pretty easy.

I have a stage 1 pray heads cam with stock ported intake on e 550 rw. So it would be adding Prays ported heads and cam package to what you have Mines 6 speed. Is very big difference in big end Actually pulls to 6500 instead of falling over at 6000. I can email you a run in Mexico where I ran it hard through 4th and kept in through most of 5th before too much traffic.
On a side note I had a rental 18 mustang gt with a10. That motor is very much improved much better low end and pulls big on top. Has more of a hit above 5500 than mine but it’s because it doesn’t have near as much low end It’s a very fun motor stock. Chassis isnt even close to ours!
I’m too stupid to post pics or vids on forum but I’ll email you my pdr run if you want to pm your email

The heads/cam comments fall right in line with what I was mentioning--out muscling the competition. There aren't too many naturally aspirated V8's out there running mid-high 500's to the wheels so, of course you would freight train them on the top end with a H/C/I setup.

How would you compare the chassis? I gather the chassis is pretty floppy and not very responsive. But I haven't driven an s550

The mustang feels like a grand touring car... softer and less responsive to steering inputs and not near the chassis balance when pushed hard. Is a great road trip cruising car but not a true sports car like the 1le is. Had a 2ss auto before the 1le and it’s way ahead of the mustang as well. For joe average the cruiser feel with the improved exhaust note of the gt will keep it outselling the Camaro and most of those mustang owners will have no idea what an awesome ride the Camaro is! Pretty awesome how far muscle cars have come in the last 3 years

Thank you everyone for the replies, I’m speaking overall roll racing or half mile runs. It just seems that the SS can’t compete in the long run.

Perhaps I’ll port the heads with some boost

It has a baby cam from the factory. Not much can be done about that. You can certainly extend the range by opening up some flow. But there are limits. Stock intake being one of them. MSD would be a better choice. There is no reason why a properly speced cam couldn't make power that carries up top as far as you would want it to.

If and when I cam this car, it will get something that can rev out to 7k+.
