Folks...if the helmet is SA2015 certified, then it meets or exceeds all the standards (open or closed).

I track 6-8 times per year and AutoX 10-12x's.

Buy what works for you and ensure it carries the certifications your plans require.

I was shooting for SA2015 since it is the newest certification.

The higher premiums are for lightness, comfort and design... If it's SA certified, safety wise they are all the same...

Good idea. Snell ratings are typically updated every 5 years. Some race org's require new equipment every 5-7. Not to mention Snell can throw a curve ball and antiquate an older version with newer mandates (tech).

Individual track day entities, tracks, and even states may require helmets for HPDE be full-face. Autocross commonly allows open-face and 'M' helmet specs as a not to the lower speeds and much lower levels of risk involved.

I'd have suggested Simpson's Voyager for reasons of price and because the eyeport is generous . . . except that that helmet in SA2015 spec is under recall. The older SA2010 is not, and you *might* still be able to find one of those and get about 3 years track day use out of it, which should be enough time for Simpson to correct the issue in question.

I am looking at helmets right now. The only one that I was able to try on was a Stilo ST5, but at over $900 way out of my price range. I want a closed face with a large eye box (to accommodate eye glasses), perhaps a Bell M8. Had a much older Bell years ago and liked it a lot. The Black Armor is reasonably priced for a carbon fiber helmet, but still more than I want to spend, and I'm not sure how big their eye box is.

I have a 120 dollar smell 2015 helmet from summit, have no problems and it's comfortable, I took off shield though.

Snell doesn't necessarily mean SA rated. Snell has more than a dozen ratings. Most sanctioning bodies specify SA ratings for automotive purposes.

OP, check out (call) Smiley's Racing Products. They are a local shop to you, and sell dirt/circle track stuff. Can't see if they have helmets in stock, but these types of shops usually do.

If you can't, get something from a site that has free shipping and returns. Then order what you think you'll like, knowing you can return it if you want. Or, order 3-4 helmets on a CC, then return what you don't like.

You really know how to make a guys wife stroke out...lol

I like the Black Armour helmet so far, been reading up on them and they have been getting really decent reviews and were listed as a top ten buy for the 2016 season.

I will have to check out Smiley's, one of the guys mentioned them but wasn't sure if they were still open or not.

Open face for cars with air bags. Also may wish to remove any "bills" which unscrew easily.
I like Bell personally.

Geez, I looked at Black Armors website, and it was priced at $599. The winding road price is making me think this will be a good choice. Thanks for posting the link.

Edit: now I see the difference, the $599 model is CF, while the $399 is composite.

Had the same dilemma as the OP. Decided to get one of these

I like the fit, allows for good vision, lightweight, current safety rating and affordable. I liked the closed face but there are open face available too.
