Custom Made Roll Bars

This CHROMOLY roll bar is what I will be putting in my car SOON. The PARTICULAR version DOES NOT have the side bar that gets in your way for those guys like me that are ALSO daily driving their cars.

The one you see on this ZL1 weighs MAYBE 30 pounds and is WELDED, NOT BOLTED to the floor. The fabricator at AMP that makes these used to work at BRINKS RACECRAFT who is widely known as one of the BEST fabrication shops in the business. The bar is REALLY REALLY tight to the body lines inside the car with less than a fingers clearance between the bars and the inside of the body panels and roof. You cant really tell from OUTSIDE the car that it has a roll bar.

He can also make these NHRA certified with the addition of the required additional bars for you drag racing guys. There is an NHRA inspector that comes to the shop to certify it .

Anyhow, THIS particular one has the harness seat belt bar and the back bars that cross and are welded to the floor to provide additional strength and also SIFFNESS.

Any idea on cost installed? I'm assuming you'll have to bring the car to them?

If you do a bar, you need to also do race seats, remove the airbags, and do harnesses. You can’t do one without doing all of it. Otherwise you are compromising the safety features of the car. Everything is designed to work together, so changing one thing impacts the rest of the car.

This looks nice.

My RPM roll bar I can't even fit a piece of paper between my headliner and cage

Why remove airbags?

That doesn't meet any time trail/race/track requirements to be considered a real cage. It doesn't even have a diagonal brace on the main hoop.

Just what I was told. There would be no point in having airbags with a cage, seat and harness. You could probably keep it and be fine other than the airbag burns. Also don’t forget the HANS device when you do all that.

The reason for all or nothing is having a cage impacts crumple zones as it makes the car more rigid, that in turn changes that your factory seats are designed to give and break during a crash (think rollover so you don’t get crushed, race seat does not break), coupled with regular seatbelts have give and work in conjunction with the airbags, seat and crumple zones. There was a thread in here a while back with a GM safety engineer that explained all that. It was part of the Hans brace discussion.

I saw a Mustang roll over at the track this past weekend, fortunately he was in a fully built race car with all safety equipment installed. He walked always just fine, but the car was totaled. The cage kept him from getting crushed. Really made me think as it could have happened easily to any of us as we are running faster.

This was NEVER meant to be a certified roll bar. This configuration would be perfect though for someone like me that daily drives my car but wants some additional roll over protection at the track and also would like to put in a six point harness.

If you want a certified roll cage, FINE. He can make you one of those as well.
Those HOWEVER would be a complete PAIN in The ASS to get in and out of several times a time a day though.

IDK? My RPM bar looks similar to this and it is certified for NHRA and SCCA.

I would just go with the RPM bar.
