VIDEO: SS 1LE chasing Focus RS and S2000

Here's some footage of one of our last Mountain runs. These are the Same guys who ran their GT4 and GT350 with me 3 days after I took delivery of my car. These are their daily driver cars, but as you can see both are very skilled drivers.

Yep he lives up in the Mountains and his driving shows it! I envy him driving those roads everyday, but I don't envy his commute to work LOL!

lol
I would re-title the video: "1LE stuck behind rice on some nice roads"

Looks like you guys had a blast.

Around here there is usually a Subaru Forrester doing 10 below on roads like that.

That was about a 1 hour long video I edited down to 15 minutes for youtube. We still had traffic from time to time. Not near as bad as tail of the dragon gets though and frankly we like these roads better.

I went out and test drove an focus RS last weekend. I think the V8 has spoiled me because that thing was less than impressive given all the hype.

Very cool. What road(s) were you on? I'd like to visit that.

US 178 and NC 215. Great roads! NC 276 is another great one!

They aren't bad cars (great all around cars really) but they won't compare to the performance of the 1LE. At Sebring I turn 2:35s in my stock RS (save for brake pads and fluid) but I suspect I would turn 2:27-2:30 in a 1LE.

Now in the rain....... I'm not sure which would be faster.

Start line was reset on the PDR but this appears to be a 2:28 lap by Darren Seltzer.

I used to own a '15 STI (and an '06 before that), and a friend of mine has a new Focus RS that I've driven. I will say that the AWD toys have tremendous grip (especially considering the narrower tires) on anything other than perfect pavement, or in the rain, and in those situations they are going to be a handful for a 1LE. But on decent, dry roads, the 1LE is going to pull away.

Even on the OE Goodyears, there are places on my local twisties where the Camaro will hop out a bit that the STI would just stay glued through. Surprising, but overall I'm definitely happier with the 1LE. Now ... if I could get this engine in the STI ...

Through my AutoXing I have learned that the OE Supercar 3's like to be at 30psi and like to get warm. WHOLE different tire when up to temp. That means the tire temp guage at least registering "warm" not "normal"

First hard drive I took in it was that video of myself, the GT4, and the GT350. I eased in to the car so it was probably 30 solid minutes of building pace and confidence in the car. During that time I had also built up some tire temp. I didn't realize that some of the performance I had gotten used to was due to the warm tires. After we parked and chatted for a while we got back to it and about 4 turns in I understeered slightly and washed slightly across the double yellows on a decreasing radius turn when I thought I was only pushing the car at about 8/10ths. Since then I always run with the tire temp gauge up until I see it read "warm" then I switch over to the PSI gauge to make sure I'm aware of how much PSI has built with the heat.

Long story short, on mountain runs shoot for 34ish PSI warm. I run it that high so it will cool off to around 31-30 and I don't need to pull out the air pump for the trip home.
