I was searching around and found out GM prefers Top Tier Gas for my car. I’ve been using Speedway all this time (it’s about the only “name brand” gas in my area). Am I safe? I have GetGo as well.

87 caused my mpg to increase.

I used 87 and had no problems, obtained freakish fuel mileage numbers and still had enough power to keep up with a stock LS1.
I used 93 to test between the two...but the difference was nearly completely unnoticeable... did this test about 5 different times and all 5...the car ran practically the same....stuck with 87 and I drove my V6 like it was stolen. No pinging, detonation, no bogging, it did perfectly fine. Quote:
My 6th Gen V6 ran almost exactly the same using 87 or 93... there was a very small amount of increase in response at speeds above 70 MPH but it was negligible. My best fuel mileage has always been obtained with 87... contrary to belief, higher octane actually decreases fuel mileage, not increases...unless the motor was designed from the start to run only high octane where low octane will significantly degrade performance like on an SS. I'm unaware where you can find 93 octane with no ethanol. I've see 87 with no ethanol here and there but only places I've seen 93 no ethanol are near race tracks. Even 87 with no Ethanol often costed about $0.20 more than premium... you're looking at $1.50+ per gallon extra for 93 no ethanol presuming you can find it. |

The manual recommends 87 so makes sense your best mileages and performance will be running what the car is tuned.

For max performance, best mileage use a steady diet of 93 octane. The computer will set itself to the highest timing table and stay there. Timing is power and gas mileage.

What fuel for 1LT V6
MBS- Cite a source that says higher octane gives better performance. The only thing octane does is stop engine knock. You may or may not have a tune with advanced timing, that will impact performance.

The V6 is a 11.5 to 1 compression motor and is detuned to run on 87 octane. The timing tables have low and high scales, if the V6 is run steady on 93 octane, the highest timing table will be learned and never retarded because it should not sense any spark knock to retard spark. A manual trans V6 and warm ambient air temps is a spark knock recipe and the computer just backs out advance lowering power, response and gas mileage.

We run 87 since new for 50,000 miles with no issues. MPG is usually 26-27. We have used 93 on several long trips and didn't calculated a difference in mpg and didn't notice any performance difference.

many different opinions on this matter of octane. I do not hear knock but I do believe I have less rapid throttle response and acceleration on 87. Could be a false sense.

Just from an older FI car, 94 Camaro in fact, it was harder to start on anything over 89, and ran rougher, speculation was that the higher octane the fuel system couldn't vaporize it.
On a V6 there's nothing to be gained IMHO. |

Nope. That is only true on a car that has a fixed timing table. Our cars do not. Reading is hard I know but it's been said many times before these cars have different timing tables and retard timing with knock on 87.
